Tamales. You could buy them and make a sauce to serve with them. Here is our families "egg chili" sauce we like to serve over eggs:

Saute 1/2 sliced onion in a pan. Add 1 small can of Pato sauce and 1/2 to 3/4 can of water and heat. Add some cheddar cheese and sour cream until melted. Serve. My 96 y/o father in laws recipe and we love it.

I go back and forth on this every year for Thanksgiving dinner. I'm curious what works for most people...have everything on the table and pass it around, or have everyone come in the kitchen and serve themselves?

We are going to a show tonight at the Crest Theater and looking for recommendations nearby. Nothing too spendy. Perhaps Mexican or Brewpub type of place where we can also have a drink. We are 4 adults. Thank you!

We loved it. We came here as a family of 4 for my husbands birthday. We were able to get a 5:30 reservation, 2 days out. We arrived at 5:00 and waited on the benches outside and people watched and visited. We were the first to be seated and the restaurant filled up quickly. We happened to have a bottle of wine that was given to my husband earlier in the day, so that worked out great. Corkage is $18. The atmosphere was just what I was looking for a special occasion and I love the music they play, at a perfect volume. I had the roast chicken with mushrooms and mashed potatoes - very delish! My husband and daughter thought likewise of the brisket. My youngest daughter enjoyed the pasta with wild boar ragu. We also shared, the best brussel sprouts we'd ever had. I guess the secret ingredient was pork fat..no wonder they were so good. The only thing I wasn't impressed by was the spaghetti, but my daughter liked it and ate it all. I thought it was nothing special, but many people rave about it here. We had the grilled calamari with warm bean salad, also good. For dessert, oh my, we had the panna cotta and the warm, filled, donuts, I don't remember what they were called, but were a wonderful way to finish a memorable meal. Service was perfect. Friendly, but professional. Not a hint of snobbery (pet peeve of mine). Yes, it was pricey, but it was a special occasion for us, and we felt it was worth it.

Thank you for the recommendations! Delfina was the perfect choice! We had such a great dinner, and the atmosphere was just what I was looking for. We were able to walk from my daughter's apartment, ducking into interesting little shops along the way to the restaurant. I wrote a positive review on Yelp today.

Thank you for the help! We have a 5:30 rez at Delfina. Actually, my daughter says she has been here before and liked it very much.

We will be in SF on Wednesday and will be going out to dinner for my husbands birthday. One of our daughters lives in the Mission Dist so we can narrow our search to this area, though we are willing to drive. We are thinking Italian, so that we all can be happy. We'd like something mid-range and with a fun, festive vibe Any recommendations?.

Hi, I'm going to hijack this post if you don't mind. We have an 11:30am Saturday Sac. State graduation at Arco arena, so we'd like to eat downtown or midtown after. Thinking Mexican, festive, around 10 people and keep it under $20 per person incl. drinks. All at the same table, no private room necessary.
Any ideas?

We are moving our daughter into her dorm on Friday and will need to have breakfast twice while in Reno. We are staying at the Silver Legacy. Any recs for somewhere not too far? Around 10 min away or closer?

Thanks Steve! Our daughter will be attending UNR in the fall and we will be making the trek from Sacramento to Reno. Good to know about non-chain options when visiting there.

We are going hiking for Fathers Day tomorrow and I thought we'd stop in Placerville for pizza afterwards. I've never had pizza in Placerville and wondering about these two places:
Pizza Plus 4615 Missouri Flat Rd.
Brick Oven Pub 2875 Ray Lawyer Dr. (off Placerville Dr.)
-or- any other suggestions. Eat-in preferably.

Looking for your favorite place for eggs benedict.

Thanks all, I've got plenty of ideas now. I thought it could be the starting point to an easy meal.

I bought a "chub" of the ready to heat and serve organic polenta at Trader Joe's. I thought I'd slice and pan fry. Any suggestions for toppings?

Great post for me as I just bought the same steaks and on here looking for sides!

Hi, I couldn't resist this at Costco today. I can make a simple stir fry, but wondering what works for others when using something like this. A good sauce recipe would be appreciated. Is there something else I can do besides stir fry? The contents are: brocolli, snap peas, baby corn, edamame, carrots, portabella mushrooms, water chestnuts, red and yellow bell peppers, shiitake mushrooms and green onions.

Hit: The au gratin potato recipe I got on this website

Miss: Waiting for the honey baked ham to be delivered on christmas eve. It arrived 45 min before my guests and it was still mostly frozen. Had to thaw in the oven which made all the wonderful glaze melt to a puddle at the bottom of the pan. Next time I will drive the 20 miles to the HB Ham store - or do my own.

Robin Joy: Thank you. I used this recipe and it turned out great! The only thing I added was some grated onion in the saucepan and I did put a little chopped garlic in the bottom of the baking pan before adding the potato mixture.

Looking for a good, dependable au gratin potato recipe to serve with ham. A crockpot recipe would be good if you have one you've tried. Otherwise the oven is fine. Thanks

A very good restaurant is Redbud. http://redbudcafe.com/menu.htm . But, ow that I think of it though, I think they are closed on Mondays. Another good one is Papa Giannis (530)672-2333. I like the red basil scampi there. Its a "cravable" dish., would be a good place on a cold rainy/snowy day like Monday will be. If you want Chinese, China City behind Safeway is good. They make great egg fu young.

A place to try would be Redbud Cafe in Cameron Park. It's in a strip mall by Applebees and is visable from the freeway. Exit on Cameron Park Dr. Not a fancy location, but you walk in and it feels like you are in Napa. They have a wine bar and exhibition cooking. Awesome menu. My favorite is the salmon with the soba noodles and coconut broth. (whoa, I just noticed they raised their prices. Dish used to be $17 now $22!) They do have sandwiches and salads also. Great local wine list.

We will be using our Marriott points here on our visit to Santa Fe next month. Family of 4 with daughters 16 and 20. From the looks of it, it seems to have all chain restaurants in the area. The only bright spot I see is the Plaza Cafe South Side. It looks like it might be in the area. I could use some help in any recommendations for this end of Cerrillos Rd. A breakfast rec. would be most welcome since we will be out and about most of the day. The address there is 4150 if that helps. Thanks!

I've used this very easy recipe called "Can't Fail Fudge". My 16 year old took over making it this year.

I buy the ready to use frozen hashbrowns, but my daughter asked if she could shred her own potatoes and freeze them. I was wondering if anyone out there actually does this. I would assume you would have to spread them out on a cookie sheet to freeze then put them in a container. Does anyone know?

Has anyone used these green plastic storage bags to help keep your produce fresh longer? They are being sold on HSN and I'm wondering if they really work and are worth it.

I just heard back from her. She hasn't had the tea, but has had the ice cream and says it is very yummy.

Hi, my daughter is in Peru now and I'm going to email her to try Chica Morada if she sees it there. Thank you for the interesting review.
