Uncle Ray's Hot are pretty hot. Not sure they're particularly good but they're definitely hot and they're like a 1.29 or something like that.

Whre did they say anything about performing a miracle? The reviewer just said they use a traditional Nixtamal techniques for grinding corn.

Barque has a pretty good patio but I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a charcuterie board unless you head down to Queen to the Local Kitchen or Bar Salumi.

I know, that's just weird. I don't get the delight either. It's obnoxious. Often times they don't even go or have any intention of doing so. It's just pathetic schadenfraude.

Turkey needs to have tenderness increased, more moisture and meatiness. Good beef should already have those qualities so trying to add them with mushroom puree shouldn't be necessary.

I'm pretty sure they're fairly adventurous. No one has mentioned any strong aversions to anything. Thanks!

I need to find a spot for tomorrow night in the Roncesvalles area for 9 people, four kids five adults. I don't have a ton of experience eating with children so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think anyone is waiting three hours for grand electric, and as far as I can tell their aspirations don't extend beyond being a neighbourhood spot. I'm not sure what Carnita is doing that seems 'try-hard'. Sounds like they're serving tacos.

So you haven't been there either yet you're not sold but also having a good laugh?

I believe atomeyes has had the La Carnita tacos many times in the past so it's not a completely blind, uninformed opinion.

My reference to the ice cream scoop was more of a comment on the consistency and texture of the meat and the comparison to tuna at subway sandwiches. It does make sense for portion control and isn't a big deal unto itself.

And that's a good point about the mushroom puree being used as filler and selling it by weight.

I don't think they advertise the mushroom puree. The person who was told this by the server said afterwards that she felt like the server kind of let it slip more than anything.

We were just talking about this place yesterday. A bucnh of people went down at lunch and the report is as follows. They uniformly agreed it was not good. The burger mixture looks like Subway sandwiches tuna and is distributed with an ice cream scoop into the burger press machine. The server also explained that the consistency is due to the fact that much of the 'burger' is a mushroom puree. They don't serve fries but potato wedges that were very similar to those you would find in the frozen food aisle in the grocery store. The take-away containers don't fit the larger burgers so everything ends up piled on top and smashed down with all the steam making the bun fall apart. No one had any plans on going back.

I've been to Noce several times over the years and I think it's safe to say that the place is a very solid restaurant. Not mind-blowing, but consistently very good. In particular I recall really enjoying a carpaccio there. If you get a seat facing bellwoods it's a nice view. It's a reliable restaurant, the kind of which likely doesn't get enough credit. If you can eat there at a discount it will be an exceptional value.

Where does he say anything that references an issue with money, construction or partnering? And has the launch been 'oft-postponed?"

It sounds like a pretty standard restaurant opening for Chang. It's not like he doesn't know what he's doing. Last time I checked he has a pretty good track record so I'm not sure how opening in Toronto is any different than the other locations or concepts. It's a little premature to be sounding the death knell.

I mentioned it above but I don't think this is Adjey's restaurant. He's a consultant now and the website seems to indicate he simply created the menu.

It just says the menu was created by David Adjey. Not sure if it's actually his spot or if he just consulted on the menu. Either way he's a goof. I actually bought his cookbook because it was on sale for 4 dollars at one of of those pop-up book sales in the Dufferin Mall. I was going to throw it away but I kept it since it's so comically terrible. Sorry though, I have no instructive feedback about the restaurant.

They've been pretty straightforward about their intentions so I doubt they would add more cheeses if time permitted. As for substituing the cheese would you walk into Bymark with a wrapped slice of American cheese tucked into your pocket and ask them to put it on the burger instead of Brie de Meux?

Just noticed that there is a fish store coming soon to Roncesvalles as well as what appears to be a gren grocers in the old Granowski space. The fish store is especially interesting as it's one thing totally lacking on the street.

The Queens Quay location is decent and I like some of the black label products. It's directly across from my office so it's convenient as well. I wouldn't go out of my way to shop there, but that's true for most places. The hate-on boners for it's demise are as comical as they are predictable.

Weird - I went with a group of 5 and had no issues at all, other than a wait you would expect in a place that size.

My gf and I can usually walk out of county general satisfied without ordering multiple menu items. I think it fits the bill.

Might also want to look at Grand Electric
