We cooked the turkey and it was delicious. Now I’ve gotta learn about brining! Next year?

I miss my grandmother’s everything! Her cinnamon rolls that were bigger than your head and I’m convinced had one stick of butter a piece (she made them for every occasion), her homemade boiled icing, her “icebox” cookies, her roasted beets, her stuffing, her rolls. We have recipes and notes but no one makes them like Grandma did!

Thanks for your help with the sell by date. Regarding the other turkey, that’s a judgmental thing to say.

I haven’t made a lot of turkeys. My mom used to always cook the turkey but she had a stroke earlier this year. I remember her saying that once meat had been opened and exposed to air, it could be bad and it was better not to risk it. I asked my sisters who have more experience than me and they said not to use it.

Hi Zackly. Both the sell by and use by dates are the same–two days ago now. Thanks.

Yes, we threw it away. I was concerned that with the hole in the package, it could be bad. We cleaned everything up with a bleach solution.

Hi and happy thanksgiving eve! I bought a replacement turkey today after my other turkey leaked, literally, all over my fridge. (What a mess. But that’s another story!) Didn’t notice the sell by/use by date was yesterday. I did notice that the turkey felt a little icy/frozen, so I’m assuming it was kept really cold. Think we’re safe cooking this tomorrow, assuming it smells ok?

Thanks for your help! In other news, the mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins pies, and chocolate torte are all done! Yum!
