I have the same sort of issue. I have found the buffet at Bombay Palace to be ok for the child in question. (We went to Banjara, which I love, and after getting the very mild--as opposed to merely "mild"-- I was disappointed that the curry flavour didn't really survive the experience... sigh.)

There appears to be fewer options this year than in the last few years. I saw an interesting option for The Lakeview but that's a long drive for a place that isn't very dinner-oriented. I'd like something that is at least semi-traditional.

I tried to post this under my post from last year but then I noticed it looks like the most recent post on that thread was about a year ago...

Any new ideas on this one for this year? My google searches seem to indicate even fewer options this year compared to last except for King Eddie and other very high end options.

I've tried all of those except Coquine Express. I'm trying to remember what happened at Mello--either they could only offer an Americano or I didn't like the coffee... can't recall which it was. And Gold Star, did not like the coffee. Rachel's---not like.

Maybe there is something wrong with me!

I can't take Tim Horton's and McDonalds but I'd love to find something decent around Yonge & Eglinton/Davisville and farther down town. Getting farther north, I liked Ideal Coffee near Lawrence but it closed and I made the error of trying Bobette and Belle (whatever that cupcake place is now up there) and yuck! Also, while a tad off central but still do-able is the new coffee place at Highborne and Eglinton. Very nice coffee most times I've tried it but that's really about it.

Ideas?

I don't know a lot about Hungarian wine but I've never heard of it being known as... well, good! ... Did I miss that it's the next great wine destination?

The Europa Bar and Restaurant on Bathurst was very good value and the soups in particular were very good. I also oddly really enjoyed the Hungarian red wine...

There are so many good Ethiopian places in Toronto. I don't think I've had any bad experiences in years but Lalibela on Bloor comes to mind as does Nazarath (which is so busy due to its greatness I just go for next best great and avoid it).

My fave Italian for tasty, good value, food is Ferraros on Eglinton.

Kensington Market has a lot of cheap eats but not always with the sit-down-relax option.

I haven't been to Vancouver in 8 years or more but I recall Hong's for dim sum and Bin 521 or something like that... and the Fish House?

We'll be staying near Alberni and Gilford.

Thanks!

Nota Bene is good (though I haven't been there in awhile) for dinner. Depends on how far you want to go.

Burrito Boyz is my favourite burrito place (very little seating though) for the haddock burrito.

Fat Pasha looks very good! I have never noticed this place in my trek up and down Dupont. Thanks for the tip!

This is where Indian Rice Factory used to be?

I like Magic Oven on Dupont near Spadina. There is a reasonable space to eat at that location.

I tried the Kensington market location and I really enjoyed it. It's the only white dough pizza I think is worth it (I'm otherwise all about the whole grain). The sauce is so flavourful and the dough is just addictive. (I usually find most white pizza more exciting in theory that in the eating.)

We had a salad special (arugula based) and the eggplant parmigiana app.

All very good.

I was wondering about the Crostata Chocolate Pecan or their cherry pie? The ingredients do not look promising but Longos can do some decent desserts...

I suppose. I think the entire party was happy with their food. I don't eat schnitzel much (and eggplant isn't as absorbent as chicken or pork so that may have factored into my experience).

They have a back room you could ask for at the Schnitzel place on Yonge near St Clair. A number of people (including me) in our party had veg dishes (we had the double eggplant schnitzel instead of the meat/eggplant mix as well as veg pierogis--and the salads were also good---other veg sides we didn't try). It was a bit greasy but then, it's schnitzel!

I tried King's this weekend and I'd say a mixed back of like not like but yes, the veggie beef was better than the veggie chicken at Green's. I couldn't figure out which the veggie meat on the hot griddle was so I didn't order it, sadly.

I just re-read your post and I realized I misunderstood your "something else" above: I thought you meant you had it somewhere else and not at that place! Now I get.

I will go back to 668... but what is it then about Gourmet Vegetarian that makes it worth the drive to RH?

Their menu also looks good (though I do not see much of greens except peas and green beans). I still might try it, particularly since it is closer than the Dundas West group of places. Which dish is the hot griddle veg meat?

If the pepper steak place had a name, I'd consider the trip. But I so rarely get Out There, I'd need a sure-thing destination! If anyone else figures it out, I might try.

I've been to Cafe 668 some years back. I liked it.. I think they even had wine (which is very nice since most of these veg places do not). They also had great greens. Was the hot and sour soup really hot and sour? I found the Buddah soup disturbingly sweet, if I recall correctly.

Those all sound good! I will try the Buddha's next. I did try it years back but all I remember is really bad hot and sour soup... Greens does greens very well but not so much the mock. Do all of these do greens well?
