I Love To EAT

l
lkscheng commented 2 years ago

Been hunting again.
Nothing but disappointments.
Went to a few vegetarian places, they were no good, at least not to my liking.
Had to go back to Vegetarian Dim Sum House on Pell cuz nothing else sufficed.
Bought a few more scallion pancake (pics attached).
I am starting to believe that making them myself is the only way to go =T
LMK is you guys find any.
TIA!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Haha
Thanks for the replies my fellow CDers
Yup...born and raised NYer... currently live in Queens... Work in Manhattan
Flushing is close to me... Going to Bodai soon (5908 Main St)
There used to be a dumpling place on Catherine...btw E. Broadway and Henry...or was it Henry and Madison... that sold the best scallion package...fresh...spiraly...scallionly
That was over 20 years ago...I miss that place...alot
Anyways... I've been an a search and have not found a place similar
Closest thing I can find are the frozen ones at the supermarket... Taiwanese brand...tanish bag (photo)
If I want something similar and fresh... I get the sesame beef pancakes at dumpling restaurants... Not the same... But what can I do
Went to May Wah...made my own...the texture is there...not the flavor (photos)
Went to Thai restaurant...not the same...it's chunks of gluten...from cans... Not layers
The search continues
Thanks again and in advance

Thanks for the responses
I will go to May Wah tonight, as well as the other suggestions from the thai places.
Not sure how close they will be to the one at Vegetarian Dim Sum House (24 Pell St).
If anyone else knows a place, please let me know.
I expect I will have to try every place till i find one that is similar.
I will post tonight's/this weekend's results.
TIA

I am looking for Mock Duck and Scallion Pancake in the NYC area.
Specifics:
For Mock Duck, the closest one that i found and like is at Vegetarian Dim Sum House (24 Pell St).
I am looking for another place that is similar in taste and texture.
The employee would not give me extra sauce, even though i bought all that was left.
And the flavor of the dish is inconsistent.
I've tried the one at Bodhi Kosher Vegetarian Restaurant (77 Mulberry St), but the outside layer was dry/crispy, and flavor was too sweet for me.
Similar to most Shanghai restaurants, the mock duck there are too sweet, and/or contains mushrooms.
I like my mock duck with many layers, tender, and salty.

For Scallion Pancake.
I have not found one to my specifics.
I want as many layers as possible, crispy on the outside and chewy/soft inside.
I want it to be stringy, spiral shaped if possible.
I don't want it thin and greasy, not just a piece of fried dough.

If you know of any place in the NYC area, please advise.
Thank you for your time and assistance.

eat on!
