I have an 8.5 quart Fissler and had the same problem. First, make sure you have enough liquid. When I make chili in the pressure cooker, I have to simmer for a while to reduce to the consistency I want. Second, bring the pot to a boil before you put the lid on. This way pressure will build up in a few minutes and you can reduce the heat.
