Just a Chinese-American mixed lady who likes great food

I found it considerably grungier and a lot more depressing.

My family and guests we brought to the underground mall, just loved it. But I can see where Americans might find it not very appealing.

Is White Bear a hole in the wall, dirty little place with a couple of tables crammed into the space in front of the ordering window?

Thanks, Dave. I'll keep an eye out for them, in case they surface somewhere.

What are your favorite low-cost spots in Flushing and/or Manhattan Chinatown?

I'm pretty sure it was NOT Tian Jin. The three ladies 1/ Cooked pork dumplings and 2/ Did not offer much variety of dumplings types. I think they had 3 versions: boiled guotie (crescents), xiaolongbao (soup dumpings) and sheng jian bao (fried round dumplings).

No news about Chengdu Heaven, sorry. I don't have so much interest in that style of food.

Whoa, a friend told me last night that the underground Golden Mall in Flushing has closed, taking with it our favorite dumpling spot.

We called it the Three Ladies dumpling restaurant – located at the end of the side ramp leading down into the mall and not far from the former Xi'an Famous Foods stall. They only served about 3 styles of pork dumplings, plus soup and noodle dishes.
Anyone know what its name is and where it could have gone?

For Monday-before-Christmas lunch next week, we are looking for a lunch spot in Flushing or NYC Chinatown that serves excellent Chinese food. If it is an upscale venue, even better – but it doesn't need to be. All suggestions welcome!

What kind of white supremacist nutsiness is this – referring to cilantro as the newfangled Mexican name ... or as Chinese parsley either? Get some culture. I'm sure Mexicans have been calling this herb cilantro since way before your mother was born.

The places I'm looking for make their own @gargupie. I believe Deluxe Manhattan is the place from whence the chef left to China recently. I haven't been to their Flushing store many times but when there, I didn't see fresh you tiao.

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm looking for a stall or bakery, not a restaurant! I make my own savoury dou jiang at home and it isn't the same without tasty, crisp you tiao to accompany it.

In NJ you tiao is mostly sold in pre-packaged bags in the refrigerator or frozen aisles. My grocer goes to Chinatown every week to bring back dimsum jongzi and other items but he can't get tasty fresh you tiao anymore.

In Chinatown I can buy it at 112 Grand St and it's not horrible there, but not wonderful either.

I guess I should add that I'm looking for a bakery or food stall, not a restaurant – a place that sells items I can take home.

Looking for really tasty you tiao. My Manhattan Chinatown source dried up and I need a new source. It's an essential part of my favorite breakfast spread.
