I'm in Tucson- corn husks are just about always somewhere in the produce section.

I think I'll wail on it with a molcajete y metate, It's long and thin and therefore too dangerous to grate. Like a green bean only dry

I was told by somebody from Campbell's that it's made and distributed in Mexico. I did a google search and found a distributor of Mexican foods that had it by the case- so I ordered one. I'm almost out and I don't recall the name of the web site, but I did find it via Google. FYI.

Right- if ever there was a great way to cook corn, it's just sticking the ears as-is in the microwave and letting the magic happen. The silks come off much more easily after cooking, too.

I've never tasted any bitterness, so I can't help you there. I never peel the squash (personal preference), that's where 2/3 of the personality is. You want to saute them on medium heat, to barely brown the outsides without cooking the squash to mush.

It doesn't take long to melt the cheese, not long enough to overcook the squash, anyway. That's all you're doing with the oven, marrying the flavors and melting the cheese.

Your squash looks like a zucchini or Mexican gray. The name probably comes from the absolutely fantastic when done right Mexican dish, Calabacitas, wherein you mix sliced zucchini or crookneck squash, which has been sauteed almost dry (very important, they need no water, but use a little fat if you must), then add green chiles, corn, mix in a casserole, cover with cheese, bake until the cheese is melted, and enjoy Heaven. You can saute some onion and garlic in a little (!) oil and add that to the mix. A Mexican mom taught me the bit about not needing water to cook the squash.

I live in a hot, mostly very dry climate, and in the summer I'm up towards a gallon of water and iced tea. I work outside a lot and perspire a lot in the heat and need to replace that fluid volume. I barely limit my salt intake, and due to a case of viral cardiomyopathy I have to take a diuretic, so I also take potassium 1-4 times a week. I'm pretty up on the medical aspect, it's important that anybody who tends to go overboard or full-tilt-boogie on health habits should thoroughly educate themselves.

Musashi brand Midori Sriracha. Normally I dislike the ubiquitious sriracha, but this is a little different. It's hot chile and wasabi flavored, and it's bright green. It's delightful.

Farmed catfish that's farmed here in the US is really, really good most of the time. I don't know what other countries have good catfish farming practices, so I can't comment. It depends on where your tilapia was farmed, too- the practices and quality vary widely.

I would like to point out, rebarding B. Kingsolver, that she used to live both in Tucson and in the Appalachians (sorry, not sure exactly where). For this experiment, she pulled up stakes and left Tucson. The challenges are there for both, but it's a damn sight harder to do what she did in Tucson than in where she did it. I think she's a great writer, by the way, but I do have a small burr under my saddle about her taking what I feel is the much easier road for Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. JMO.

Le Creuset has stoneware that isn't overly pricey. I bought one and am amazed. It cooks evenly and beautifully and Does Not Stick.

I tried that once and my friends nearly mutilated themselves. But I agree about using others' knives, they're almost always horribly dull, but right now mine are too.

When I was a kid we had a little tomcat that ate pansies off the plant and loved cantaloupe. actually, a lot of dogs and cats like cantaloupe. Don't know about the pansies, but I like them too.

I work in the IT field. Sometimes I sharpen chopsticks in a pencil sharpener and then sand the rough parts to give me a nonconductive long pointy probe.

When I was young and just starting in the health care field, the OR where I worked had a hell of a time keeping Kellies and Mosquitoes in stock. The stoners just called them hemostats. And pocketed them whenever they could.

Just because it's not usually done doesn't make it wrong. We throw away WAY too many styro containers and they aren't recyclable. It's a cultural thing, but if you're expecting there to be food left over, it does make sense to bring your own take home containers. I kinda wish it wasn't considered so taboo.

Unless, of course, you're at an AYCE place.

No nets- hurts the merchandise! One has to hire lithe young people to catch them by hand, gently so as to not damage the delicate outer shell.
