I think my favorite place is a little hole in the wall in Midtown, Kim Tai @ 2602 Fannin. It is very cozy and you sit next to the kitchen, which means you often leave the place smelling like you work there. The Pho with the duck leg is sublime.

If you want something with a nicer atmosphere, Huynh on St. Emanuel is very popular. Thien An Sandwiches on San Jacinto is good, too.

Yelp is horrible.

I always end up at Korea Garden. I like it better than Seoul Garden. For me, Tofu Village was pretty bad. Maybe it's too authentic and that's why I didn't like it? I've heard good things about Bon Ga but I haven't been. One of my Korean friends suggested it.

For me, the ready-to-grill / ready-to-eat stuff at H-Mart is pretty good and a fraction of the cost of eating out.

I don't get this place either. It's overpriced, overcrowded, and under-good. I respect them as businesspeople. People love eating at Landry's and Luby's too, just not me.

Sounds interesting, too bad the local warehouses don't carry them. A big part of that price is probably the shipping.

I do appreciate it. Sorry if I came off like a jerk.

$20/lb is what I paid for fresh, local pasture-raised duck breasts. No way I'd pay that for factory farmed, saline "enhanced", frozen parts. Maybe I didn't get such a bad deal.

Interesting idea, thanks.

It seems like there ought to be a farm near Houston that raises and sells ducks, maybe at a local farmer's market?

I know Revival has sold Yonder Way Farm poultry in the past, at 100-200% markup over Yonder Way's delivery price. With that in mind, I figure it ought to be possible to buy local duck for half the Revival Market price.

Where can I get duck breasts? I found good ones at Revival Market, but I want something less expensive. A friend suggested Viet Hua, but they only had feet, gizzards, and hearts, aside from frozen whole ducks. Whole Foods sometimes carries frozen boxed ones, but I've no idea what's in those sealed boxes and there isn't even a price on the shelf. Thanks!

Jolie Vue is great and they deliver to your door, but the catch is you don't get to pick what you get. Their eggs, beef and pork are great, their sausages are also great, and it's nice having pork fat to render ... but their poultry was consistently awful. The way things are packaged, they make it difficult to cook for more than two. (You might get two steaks, for example.) For that reason, I canceled about a year ago. They said they were working on the poultry quality, and honestly most of my delivery was beef and pork.. not a big deal.

A friend of ours arranged to have Jolie Vue deliver to Clear Lake, and I believe it is still available.

They are super nice people and a pleasure to do business with. I recommend signing up for their next open "house" at the farm.

I don't know of anywhere else to get pastured pork.

Yonder Way farm is also good. They have really great poultry. The downside is they don't deliver to your door; They deliver to a local area once a week and you have a one or two hour window to pick up your order. For a working family we found it virtually impossible to get to the pick-up location at the designated time. It's designed for stay-at-home moms. If you don't mind paying a huge premium, you can buy (or just try) their meats at Revival Market in the Heights.

Revival is also good for things like Elk, Venison ... Call ahead and make sure they have what you want, and they'll set it aside.
