Just back from our trip, and wanted to post some of our finds.

First night, had dinner at Tom Jenkins BBQ. Wow. Those were some of the best baby backs I have had in a long time. Not fall-off-the-bone tender, but full of flavor and lots of yummy crispy edges. Great sauce, too. I also loved their mac & cheese, and fantastic corn muffins. I'll definitely go back on my next trip.

Second night, had dinner at Betty's Soul Food. This was a disappointment. I ordered the fried chicken and it was dry. I ordered the mac & cheese and yams as sides, and they were very mediocre, and both were served at room temp - not even slightly warm. Their corn muffins were also just fair - not very flavorful and mushy from being held in a steamer for who knows how long.

Had ice cream one night at Kilwin's on Las Olas, it was good but not great. Much better ice cream at Frieze (Plantation location) - fantastic chocolate and mint chip.

Dinner our last night was at Jaxson's . . . yes, I know I said in an earlier post that they were pricey, and they were, but it was a fun atmosphere, great hot dogs (and some of the best fries I've had in a long time), and good ice cream. And now that I've been there once, I don't need to go back.

We had a good lunch one day at Primanti Brothers, I had the pastrami sandwich and it was tasty.
Another "now that I've tried it, I don't need to go back." But man that place is a gold mine, what a great location and open 24/7.

Yesterday on the way to the airport we had lunch at Lester's Diner, I had an excellent tuna melt. I wanted to get there for breakfast one day but for some reason my GPS couldn't find it based on the address (I had better luck yesterday by plugging in the name).

Thanks for all the recommendations, we had some really good food thanks to you guys!

Creamette's Lasagna

1/2 pound uncooked lasagna noodles

1 lb bulk Italian sausage
1/2 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onions
2 garlic cloves, minced
1-28 oz can whole tomatoes, cut up (undrained)
2-6 oz cans tomato paste
2 tsp sugar
2 tsp salt
1-1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp fennel seed
1/4 tsp black pepper

1-15 oz container ricotta cheese
1 egg, beaten
1 TB dried parsley flakes
1/2 tsp salt
4 cups (1 lb) shredded mozzarella cheese
3/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Preheat oven to 375 F.

Prepare noodles according to package directions; drain.

In large skillet, combine sausage, ground beef, onion and garlic. Cook till sausage is no longer pink and onion is tender; drain. Stir in next 7 ingredients (tomatoes through black pepper). Bring to boil; reduce heat, and simmer 20 minutes uncovered, stirring occasionally.

In medium bowl, blend ricotta, egg, parsley and salt.

Spoon 1-1/2 cups meat sauce into 9 x 13 pan. Layer 1/3 each of the noodles, remaining meat sauce, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese. Repeat layers twice (three layers total). Cover with greased foil (so cheese doesn't stick to foil).

Bake in preheated oven for 25 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until hot and bubbly. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Serves 8-10.

A few recent nays:

Tarte de Aslance (? - I threw away the box so I am sure i'm butchering the name) - was sadly disappointed in this. I'm not sure what didn't work for me, the crust, the cheese, the onions or the ham, but it just didn't.

Milk chocolate covered peanut butter eggs -- someone else posted on this thread that these were superior to Reese's pb eggs. I completely disagree -- TJ's had way too much chocolate and not enough peanut butter.

Reduced fat mac & cheese -- The only reason the calories and fat are so low is b/c the portion size is so small! I had it for lunch yesterday and seriously it was gone after about 6 spoonfuls.
