Hey Melanie!
For the first time ever we stayed in Santa Ynez. Every other time we have gone up we have stayed in Los Alamos, but it was great fun being in another area, and we LOVED the Santa Ynez Inn which includes something like 19 different tastings! We had dinner one night in Brothers red barn which was very good though I have to say, HEAVY on the salt. We had our second dinner at Trattoria Grappolo which was superlative. Great food and service. Wine tasting-we LOVED Solminer so much we became members! We tried the bubble shack, not good at all. But Story of the Soil and Coqiouelicot made up for it. We got sandwiches at Los Olivos Grocery and headed out to some of our favorites Beckman, Tres Hermanos, Buttonwood, Zaca Mesa and picnicked at our favorite picnic spot Rancho Sisqouc. I have to mention GLOBAL GARDENS. Holy hell, the olive oil tasting was phenomenal and we bought the best Olives I think I have ever had. We also love to visit Clairmont Lavender farm and stock up on dried Lavender and Herbs de provence. It was a great trip. We love the area and try to get up there a couple times a year. Thanks for the help everyone!

Hello, chowhounders! My husband and I and our 17 year old are making a trip out to death valley. Staying one night in Tecopa (Looking forward to Steaks and Beer!) one night in Beatty and one night in Pahrump. Is there anything y'all can recommend for breakfast, lunch and dinner? Is it worthwhile stopping to eat at Death Valley inn? Anything I REALLY need to avoid? Thanks SO much.

Hello everyone!
We are heading up to Santa Ynez for the weekend, staying in Santa Ynez for the first time. We usually stay in Los Alamos. We have been many times but not in quite a few years. We love Full of life flatbread, Bob's Well bread, and we were planning a dinner at Brothers Red Barn unless y'all have different recommends? Maybe industrial eats? Would also love some winery reccs for unusual or new wineries. We have hit most of the usual. What are your favorites? Thanks SO much.

Hey Everyone, We will be driving down from Granville Ohio to Harrodsburg Kentucky and would love some help for a great dinner and breakfast and all the threads are very old. Primarily looking for Bbq and southern classic food, not fine dining. We eat everything! Any intel on how the food is at Shaker Village? Thanks SO MUCH!

Hey Everyone, we are taking our son to visit colleges and are going to be in Birmingham staying at the Westin for a Friday afternoon/Night and Saturday morning.(We do have a car, so can drive!) I live in LA now and miss the hell out of southern cooking, bbq, and a biscuits and gravy down-home breakfast. Would love some help. Thanks so much !

Hey everyone, I have noticed that all the threads about St George Island are about 8 years old and I was wondering if anyone could give me some recent recommends for restaurants and grocery stores. We will be staying on the island for 5 days, we eat EVERYTHING, but we are seriously looking forward to fresh seafood. We come from the Chesapeake Bay, so we are very used to crab shacks and buying seafood and tomatoes off a truck from a local. Thanks so much!

We will be driving from Granville Ohio to stay at the Shaker village and would love to know anything along the way or how the food is NOW at Shaker village or environs. Any must try's?
Thanks!

We are doing a grand college tour in Ohio starting at Oberlin then Kenyon and lastly Dennison. I have found some good recommends for Oberlin and Kenyon but everything about Granville is very old, Any help appreciated. We eat EVERYTHING. Thanks so much

Just to let you know, was looking up The Fix Bistro and this weekend is it's last weekend as it's closing! Such a shame, it looked good!

Thank you SO much! This is all SO helpful and I wish I were staying longer as it all sounds so good! I LOVE the idea of the market as it combines a bit of tourism with eating. I saw on another thread that downtown can be kind of empty on Sundays!

Hey Everyone!
We will be arriving in Cleveland Heights a Saturday night in August exhausted from the airport and would love some advice on where to have dinner, close. We will have a car. We would love something cozy, definitely with wine, beer and/or cocktails, not too high end or expensive.
Sunday, we thought we would to go into downtown and need some advice on brunch. We would love cocktails, but it's not strictly necessary, and it could definitely be more high end, though it does not have to be. We LOVE a good diner. We will be coming in from LA, and since we have such great food here, we are really looking for someplace local and with a Cleveland feel, if that makes any sense. We eat everything, and would also love any recommends for classic bars. Thanks so much! PS- We would love to try some local beer!

HEY! I am so sorry it has taken me so long to follow up on this post. Life took over for a little while there. Thank you to everyone for their great advice, we are even MORE in love with Morro Bay after our stay. What a great place. Here are the places we loved and didn't. We absolutely LOVED Bayside, the food was wonderful, service so great and the atmosphere beautiful. We were there to watch the sun go down and it could NOT have been more perfect. We loved the food at both Tognazzini and Giovanni, but the atmosphere at Tognazzini's dockside is second to none. We loved the outside music and as we sat there the otters and seals were playing right beside us and it was so idyllic I felt like I was in a rom-com. Just a beautiful place. I'm from the Chesapeake Bay and super picky with fresh seafood and both places, the seafood was SO fresh, well-prepared, and super fairly priced. We had fantastic sandwiches at the hofbrau, and the Libertine. Great beer selection at the Libertine! We loved breakfast at Frankie and Lola's and the Coffee Pot, while not as good, was also enjoyable. All of these places were so friendly. We are always so happy to get out of LA and the attitude!

Sadly, we were not super impressed with our dinner in the Galley. The people there are SO nice I hate saying it, but the food was only ok, and super overpriced for bland fish and veg. Our appetizers were all really good and they have lovely wine choices, so I would go back and just have an app and a glass of wine, but the entrees were super disappointing. We were also not so impressed with Dorn's. Granted, we only got a few dishes, but the fried seafood was not good and amazingly expensive. It reminded me a lot of what can sometimes pass for "fine dining" in rural Maryland and Virginia. Very expensive menu, great views with a lot of bland food.
Thanks again to all my chowhound friends, I have never been let down with ya'lls advice. Hit me up if you need LA advice!

I'm not sure if it is what you are looking for, but my husband is Irish and we spend A LOT of time there, and every house has at least one Avoca cookbook. They are all wonderful, very pretty and a mix of traditional and new. My husband seduced me with their Roasted Tomato and Fennel soup. We call it wooing soup. I also have a cookbook called "The Complete Irish Pub Cookbook" that is lovely and has some great recipes.

I adore almost all of Mark Bittman's. I find them easy and easy to change and make my own. They also inspire me when I feel uninspired. My husband is Irish and we adore almost all the Avoca cookbooks. Their soups, especially, are to die for....I married my husband because he made their Roasted Tomato and Fennel soup. It's known as "wooing soup" in our house.

I just looked her up and I don't know where to start (Though I want to start with the Morocco one because it was the best trip of my life). I'm a pretty basic home cook. Are the recipes pretty time consuming and complicated?

Heya-I have been checking the Morro Bay listings and they are all over 5 years old and I keep coming up with restaurants that are closed! We like to eat EVERYTHING, but I especially like seafood. (I'm a Californian now, but I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay) We have a rez for the Galley for Friday night special birthday dinner (Is that a good idea?) and need recommendations for breakfast, lunch, dinner on Saturday. I have read that Bayside is good, and I was thinking of Giovanni's Fish restaurant for lunch but it might be raining! Any good pubs, etc for a rainy day ? Thanks so much, Y'all have taken us around the world, we always appreciate chowhounders!

I will, and thanks SO much for all the amazing info. And yes, we don't want corporate anything, and don't want to pay for atmosphere-unless it's something super unusual and amazing then we just just get drinks...lol.

The "bad pint" is cracking me up because in Ireland that is the excuse you hear when someone has a wicked hangover.
"Ach, now, ye must have had a bad pint"

STEVEWI !!!

WOW you are amazing! Thanks so much for the comprehensive list. I guess maybe I should have said what we are looking for is more old school? (As I said, here I would send you to musso and franks or Dan Tana's -old school) We have SO MANY restaurants opening here all the time and I just don't need to go to Portland and see Edison bulbs and get Brussels sprouts when I can do that here. (Unless the edison bulbs are in a brewery-my husband is Irish and we need to hit some breweries! )

And of course, I am scrolling all the old threads and reading those too.

Oh gosh, thank you so much, late night happy hour would be great!!! At some point the teen will want to go back and try to watch porn at the hotel (that is a joke, (well, kinda.) ) and my husband and I love a good bar crawl. So yes, please any and all bar reccs would be great, we especially love very old dives.

Love the recc for breakfast and yeah, the funny thing is that they opened a voodoo here in Los Angeles anyway! We also have a pok pok (Which we love) so we might skip that too.

PS-We will be there Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and would very much appreciate some fun places for breakfast too. Thanks again

We live in LA and well, clearly love to eat. I am from the Chesapeake Bay and husband is from Ireland so we love all kinds of seafood, smoked fish, crab, oysters, especially.
We are taking the sprog up to see Reed and will be in Portland for three days.-also a night in Astoria. We would love to see "Quintessential" Portland-whatever that means to people. (For example, we live in LA, if you asked for "Quintessential LA" I would send you to Musso & Franks, Parks, Guelaguetza, Chez Jay etc. We want a range of places with experiences attached, if possible. We get enough trendy right here at home.
Thanks so much.

Thanks a lot. I heard the patio of Pat O'brien's wasn't a bad place to hang out while we are out walking around. Is that so?

And I will just order something kind of straight forward like a G&T!
