The Well or Saint Felix for happy hour in Hollywood.

Magee's, Super Donut or Tasty Donut.

Take the ocean express trolley down to Manhattan Beach Pier for tons of dining choices including MB Post. If you must stay within walking distance of the airport, I'd go with Daily Grill at The Westin .

Thank you for the report, I guess you did not find any peach ice cream ?
Also am wondering about the buttered lobster roll at McLoon's, do they serve it CT-style (burger bun) or still in the Maine hot dog roll?

That's been my understanding too. Unlicensed establishments can allow drinking (BYOB) but cannot charge corkage fees. And that's what I've been told by a couple of restaurants that allow BYOB. Apparently it's no longer true:

The new site is not hard to navigate for me and my paleo-laptop, and I don't need to "find a tag". However I will say drRay is right, the LA board died about a year ago. I'll keep my theories on the "why" to myself.

San Biagio way out in Upland is the best I've had lately. Cabbie's in Duarte is good but can be inconsistent. Near LAX, "The Good Pizza" in Playa del Rey is a great stop if you need to fuel up before taking a long flight, or kill some time while waiting for a flight to arrive.

thanks, but I read somewhere else that they were getting $26 in late July/early August. Maybe the 'market price' for lobsters way up at that time. Over a hundred bucks for a family of four, not including drinks or sides . I wouldn't pay that much for something that is so easy and simple to prepare at home.

I don't understand the 3% surcharge. Are they trying to make some kind of statement? Did they really want to say "our menu prices have gone up because of Obama"?

Why not a .5 % surcharge for employee uniforms? a 25cent surcharge for employees to take the bus? A 5% surcharge for the waitperson's social security? They don't break it down for any of these things , why for healthcare?

Round Top in Damariscotta, Toots in Yarmouth, and the fabulous John's between Augusta and Belfast all make peach ice cream, but you'd have to call ahead to see if they still have it.

Oh wait, you said SOUTHERN Maine. I don't know if Shain's makes it but if they do, they also make the ice cream for Dunne's at Nubble Light in York. Also I would imagine that Shaw's Ridge makes peach ice cream since they're known for their fresh fruit ice creams. They're up near Alfred/Sanford.

I would imagine that Peach Tree Farms in Salem NH has Peach Ice Cream. Applecrest Orchard in Hampton Falls now carries ice cream made with their own fruits and I hear it's delicious. "Memories Ice Cream" up the road from Applecrest makes the ice cream for them.

Please let me know if you end up finding some and how it is.

Wow, what is Red's charging this season?

Bit far for you to drive maybe, but keep Libby's Market in Brunswick in mind if you have never had their lobster roll.

5 items? No, the menu is quite extensive for a café, and special-order cakes and platters are always available. Their key-lime pie with the coconut/cashew crust is a favorite of ours. And the toffee bars are amazing.

Here is one of Barbara and George's favorite spots:
www.stripersrestaurant.com

(They love Mabel's, too, but generally avoid it due to being mobbed by tourists).

Note that "high levels of service" can get iffy in Maine after the tourist season because much of the staff goes back to college.

As for a casual spot between BH & Kennebunkport, are you traveling down the coast or taking I-95 ? If the former we like Marriner's Café in Camden, the latter maybe Riverside Farm off the I-95 Waterville Oakland exit.

We were underwhelmed with the consistency of the ice cream and it was too soft, also much of it looked artificially colored. This was a couple of years ago, maybe should try again.

We do love organic Local Ice on Ventura in Studio City near Coldwater.

I don't see anything wrong with asking if you'd like some bread. Serving homemade bread to people who don't want any is a waste. And a lot of people avoid bread nowadays.

Shannon's in Boothbay for a lobster roll, a lot of people also rave about Karen's, the little shack on Wiscasset Road as you're leaving Boothbay.
Haven't been to Larson's so I guess we should avoid? How about Muscongoous Bay Lobster, have you been there? The Seafood Market
in downtown Dscotta sells very good chowders.
In Rockland, head for Claws on Main Street, or Hill's Seafood.

"Only so much Round Top Ice cream we can eat" -gotta disagree with you there !

They're all good....I'd go with Fox's for the location, and you can walk up the road to Dunne's Ice Cream , owned by the same family. (Dunne's is cash-only).

The Peanut Butter Straciatella is terrific, have you tried the Wild Maine Blueberry Crisp?

j
jackattack commented 6 years ago

Naia's containers are a pint-and-a-half though, so not really any more expensive than most of the other high-end brands

Blueberry season is mid July to Labor Day so you'll be a little late. They freeze well though, so you should see some pies offered here and there. Unfortunately probably not the ones baked by Parson's sister at Parsons Lobster Pound,or the tasty Blueberry-Rhubarb pie served at Mckay's , they'll be back next season.

Morning Glory Bakery and Cottage Street Bakery are both worth checking out...let us know which pie you liked the best!

The Slipway in Thomaston
Claws in Rockland
Highlands Coffee House in Thomaston
In Good Company in Rockland
Lori's Café in Liberty if you like first-rate diner food.

I'll recommend the cinnamon rolls at Maine's best kept secret, Lori's Café in Liberty. (next to John's ice cream and just down a piece from Lake St. George State Park). It's sort of halfway between Augusta and Camden, on Route 3.
I'm not sure that Lori bakes her cinnamon rolls every day, but the cinnamon French toast is a winner, too.

There's still an Ernies on the west end of Toluca Lake, were they related?
