I've been back 2 times since my original post, so I've done both Bellmore and Boka!

My last trip I had a lovely longer meal at Nico.
Temporis is on my list but they are booked up for this trip
Right now I have Fat Rice and Cherry Circle
Will look at these for my other meals.

THANKS!!!!!

I was initially really confused why Melanie was showing up on my Chicago feed, but I am so glad to see her here.

I am about to make another trip back and looking for more places.
I am also still in shock over Grace closing

Melanie, did you do a whole trip report?

Reviving this because apparently Hunan Home has new owners and fired the entire staff. This explains a few things like why I didn't recognize anyone last time, they no longer cary Taiwan beer(srsly one of my favorites) and they no longer offer the peking duck mushu.

Not sure if I should go there for my Xmas dinner or try exploring for something new.
Suggestions please!

I personally would go to Boulevard. Mainly for the ambiance.
Have you looked at the NYE menu's for each?

would love to hear a recap of where you went and what you loved, etc.

Well, dare I say it, go to Akiko early and then finish at Delfina?
Do both, a nice sampling of sushi which is not the most filling, and then some pasta.

A few times I have left Akiko and went to Kin Khao for something a bit more substantial.
I would do both, and then you end in the Mission and can do some bar hopping there.

Akiko's Sushi Restaurant---good and offers some interesting fish/seafood that is not traditional for SF. Make sure you are at the one on Bush st and not Mason st
Delfino---Do you mean Delfina? Awesome and fun, I love Craige and Annie's food.
Blowfish (is this any good? Or is it more of a fun place with OK non-traditional sushi?) You ae already doing Akiko, do you want another sushi meal?
Cala---wonderful, it's been a year since I was there but I love the space, the food and the people who own it
Bellota---really great, also can check out barcino it's sister restaurant

Same
I eat at the Fisherman Wharf one a few times a year and it is always solid.
Service can be a bit hit or miss, but overall the food has been on point.

Personally I would choose Rich Table, because if there is a wait, you have all of Hayes Valley to explore.

Al's place is the same cause it's in the mission, just a tad past the main Mission action

Liholiho would be TL and that would have me at the Saratoga while waiting.

Hello All,

Since I will be dinning out on Thanksgiving, I thought we could start a list of places open and serving.

The usual hotel places of course, but what else have you all tried?
I am going to try for House of Prime Rib, but they are already booked up

great recap that i will use for my next trip!

Re: Service, I felt that over all the level of service was lacking considerably. I am not sure if I am so used to the service standards of SF, or if I'm just a snob about service.
I found it incredibly annoying at times.

Interesting comment on the casualness, i had the opposite experience. In SF I am used to being in a Michelin restaurant next to someone in jeans/hoodie/baseball hat. I felt everyone in Chicago was dressed up.

She has a new chef in her kitchen, no?
I was thinking he just needs more time to bring her that 3rd star

The food would be considered more approachable(IMO) at Sommerset and larger portions, less precious. I would run back to Boka in a heart beat

Hounds! You did not steer me wrong with Boka. THANK YOU!!!!

Amazing cocktails!
Had the carrots
the tartar
the octopus
the scallops and seriously, the tortelli....I ordered it twice. Not kidding. Had it, then got the scallops, shared the scallops with two people sitting next to me at the bar, just so I could have room for more pasta.

Hello all, I am on my last night in Chicago and I have one final meal to go.
This is my mini recap:

Monday I got in, checked in and went to RL(it's my tradition), to sit in the bar with Oysters, Escargot and a wedge. Had a drink and Charcuterie at Nico later at night

Tuesday: Maude's liquor bar---Had more oysters(we just don't get many East Coast Oysters in SF and they are my favorite over west coast ones), Escargot, Foie and the Lyonnaise salad. Over all good, and great cocktails

Wednesday: BLVD----Had to cancel this because I endede up at the Cubs game
Thursday: Publican----Had to cancel just to watch the Cubs game. After the 3rd inning I gave up and walked into the bar at Sommerset. Exquisite Oysters with a yonzu/apple. Wonderful Octopus with a cucumber done 3 ways, with a dill yogurt sauce. unique prep that I have not had before and simply amazing. Then the scallops with a celery root puree, fennel and compressed...were they dates? Figs? what? cause they were amazing.

Friday: I ate late at my work and then had a brussel Bruschetta at Nico. not good. way too sweet. The percorino wine there is outstanding.
Saturday: Gilt Bar---better than expected! Steak tartar was lovely. The truffle pasta was great. The Mussels were good but before they delivered 3 large plate dishes on top of our truffle pasta, they went somewhat cold.

Side note that I am still figuring out the service standards of Chicago vs SF.

Tonight I am REALLY excited for Boka!!!!!!!!

So what are you thinking for Wed? You will go to Tartine, then to GG Park, have lunch and then the GG bridge? If that is what you are thinking, maybe Flores would be a good Non Taco shop Mexican spot?
Just figuring out your logistics in order to recommend good options.

Welcome to the overwhelming food city!

On Wed, not sure where you are staying but to go to the Mission, then to GG park/GG bridge(not close to each other by SF standards, but you can certainly get a great view of the GG bridge from GG park) and then to Dim Sum(which usually finishes serving after lunch) and then back to the park side for Nopalito, seems like going all over the city and back. I would suggest Dragon Beaux since it gets rave reviews and is somewhat close to the park.

Nopalito is good, and where I often eat park side, but not a place I go running to. Are you wanting to stay in that area for dinner?

Foreign Cinema, The Progress and Al's place would be good options. I love Trestle, but I love Stone's Throw even more.
