Coquette has been able to satisfy my wife and I, who are both pescatarians, each time we've been there. It's a fantastic place and their prix-fixe dinner is wonderful.

Felix's for oysters....no need to wait an hour to be seated at Acme.
Consider Coquette for dinner.
Shaya...haven't been there, but it's on my list for our next visit.
As others have said, Three Muses is a wonderful place for music, had outstanding food and probably would admit your son.
Preservation Hall is certainly worth a visit....historic, talented musicians, surprise guests, a piece of history.
Try to catch some Cajun and/or Zydeco music somewhere. Some of Acadiana's best musicians make regular stops in NOLA.

I've always liked Jamie Hollander's prepared foods and have never found them to be "overpriced". However, if you are looking for an alternative, there's Max Hansen's Carversville General Store.

Maize in Perkasie.
NoLa by Brian in Stockton, NJ.
Caleb's, as previously recommended.

Great question. Thanks to the OP and all who are contributing. Please report back and add to the list!

Ugly and unusable.
The dearth of new postings on boards I follow is evidence that I am not alone.
Bring back the old chowhound. Jim Leff deserves better.

Looking to make a second batch of sauce (gravy, for those of you from Jersey), my current source of juicy plum tomatoes is now sold out. Where do you buy your tomatoes for sauce in Bucks County? And, will they still have a bushel or two this weekend?

Applewood and Al di La remain "solid, dependable, nice night out" choices in Park Slope. At the same time, there are reasons they have survived and even flourished for so many years, despite the appearance of so many new restaurants in the neighborhood, including some featuring "celebrity" chefs, fashionable cuisine and considerable "buzz": excellent food, good service, well-chosen wine lists and value. My wife and I had a "nice night out" at Applewood just the other night. No reservation, we walked in, were treated like valued customers, we enjoyed an excellent meal and left satisfied.

I have to disagree with @dndicicco. I believe there are several extraordinary places to dine in Bucks County. If oysters and seafood are a priority, I would consider Hamilton's Grill Room in Lambertville. They have an excellent selection of oysters and always have at least one outstanding fish selection on their menu. Sitting on the patio on a nice evening is a plus.

New to the scene is NoLa by Brian in Stockton. Didn't see any oysters on the menu during a recent visit (although I'd wager that a call two days in advance might score you a dozen), there were some excellent seafood choices on the menu, which changes daily.

Maize on Walnut in Perkasie is currently my favorite Bucks County restaurant. They have a fantastic tasting menu. Be aware that the room can be a bit loud when full and also be aware that food is prepared to order and served at a lesiurely pace, so plan to spend at least 2 hours on your dinner.

Have never been there, but have heard good things about The Oyster House in Milford.

Finally, I'm in agreement about D'Floret, which always pleases.
Since most of the restaurants I've named are BYO, make your meal even more special by bringing a bottle of champagne and a nice wine to pair with your seafood.

Enjoy.

It's Atlanta...

"Matthew Ridgway returned to Atlanta to work with restaurant group, Southern Proper Hospitality. He spent a few years down there before, working with Joël Antunes. Matt is currently helping make two great restaurants even better: http://www.gypsykitchenatl.com/ and http://www.thesoutherngentlemanatl.com/"

More and more restaurants are "cash only" these days, including a few in the Lambertville/New Hope area.

We enjoyed a very fine meal at NoLa on Saturday evening. The room has been redone a stark white, with plenty of windows to let the sun shine in. Upon entering, there's a counter for individual diners and a few tables. The main dining room is nicely laid out, without crowding.

I had a leek "cheesecake", which was a variation on a leek tart theme. I also had the gnocchi. Prices are very reasonable (two apps, two mains and a shared dessert) was less than $100, including tip. Service friendly and helpful. Noise level very tolerable. BYO is, of course, a real plus. While I don't think NoLa will fully replace The Pass, I think it's a great addition to the local dining scene.

By the way, there are tables set in front of the restaurant, but I'm not sure too many people will find eating in a parking lot a romantic option.

Price now listed at $306 per person, but that includes "service fee", but not tax. Is this a price increase?

My wife, who is doing the gluten-free thing, loves their stuff.

I think he's still in Paris. He's managed to keep his plans under wraps. My money is on LA, since that's where his wife is from.

So, to clarify, NoLa opens with a prix-fixe dinner tonight, Wednesday, and with an a la carte menu tomorrow. Brian will be the chef at NoLa for the first several months, and then will return to Lambertville.
The menu at NoLa is described as Mediterranean and different than Brian's menu. Like Brian's, it will be cash only and BYO. The above phone number is for the Lambertville location, while the phone number in Stockton is 609.460.4863.

So, how was the dinner? And, is there any word about when NoLa will be opening? Is the name of the restaurant a playful reference to New Orleans, or is it just a reference to its location north of Lambertville?

Very nice tea stand at the Stockton Market. Couple who run it very knowledgeable and have weekly specials. Well worth the trip.

We've been to Acadiana twice in the past eighteen months. You did well. Let me add three places: Myran's Maison de Manger in Arnaudville, Pont Breaux's Cajun Restaurant in Breaux Bridge (food gets a 5, live music an 8) and Poche's Market (the lunches are excellent and abundant...daily specials).

A big loss. David is a man with great integrity. He didn't play games. He just made good food and made people eating his food very happy. Forget about "vibe" or "buzz", Louro (and his supper club) was a place for adults to enjoy well-prepared food.

Hope he surfaces somewhere else soon. NYC commercial real estate costs are prohibitive, though. It's tough for anyone to make it these days.

Already booked for dinner on Saturday evening (Trinity Episcopal Church's Lobster Dinner in Solebury), but count me as excited about such a fine new choice for local dining, particularly since The Pass has closed. Hope one of you will report back and I'll look to reserve for next weekend.

You are right, the place is, indeed, called Cows.
I guess I was still recovering from my brain freeze when I wrote that entry.

1. If your route from Charlottetown to Wolfville will allow you to pass through Stanley Bridge, Carr's Oyster Bar is well worth a stop. Start with at least a dozen Malpeques, try their steamed shellfish and then finish with a whole lobster. Other worthwhile dishes include the pan-fried oysters (you can order these without the chips for about $3 less).

2. In Truro, NS, try fish and chips at Murphy's, located in a strip mall in town.

3. In Halifax, Obladee Wine Bar is a lovely place to sit with a glass of wine and some nicely prepared small plates.

4. Just past the infamous Peggy's Cove, in Indian Harbour, try Ryer's Lobster Shack. It's a bit hard to find, but, I'm told, it is well worth the detour. We tried to visit on a Tuesday at lunchtime, but found them closed.

5. The Five Fishermen, in Halifax, is quite popular with natives and tourists alike. The bar area is less formal and offers a different menu than the dining area upstairs. Inspect both menus before deciding.

6. With eleven locations on PEI and one in Halifax, Moo offers some of the best ice cream in North America. Try their maple walnut and their strawberry sorbet.

7. In Lunenburg, you have many choices of excellent dining. Try the clams and fish and chips at The South Shore Fish Shack. Next door, at The Savvy Sailor, be sure to have the scallops with maple glaze. They are sourced from nearby beds by Adams and Knickle (A&K). I assure you they will be the best scallops you've ever tasted.

File under #GMA@B: one excellent Bucks County farm market has ramps for $24.99/lb. and one vendor at the otherwise fabulous Stockton (NJ) Farmers Market wants $30/lb. As I recall, crack cocaine was cheaper. Let's see if Wegman's still has them for $14.95/lb.

I've been to Brooklyn Fare, Daniel, Jean Georges and Le Bernardin.
Brooklyn Fare is the most unique of the bunch and certainly one of the finest meals I've every had. Le Bernardin is my regular, special occasion restaurant. Never had a bad meal. Service and ambiance are wonderful. Daniel and Jean Georges are both elegant and enjoyable.
Depending upon when your special occasion is, it may come down to where you can score a reservation. Brooklyn Fare has an insane system of reservations, whereby you can only call on a Monday morning six weeks before your desired seating. Le Bernardin takes reservations on the first day of the month preceding the date you desire. I've hit redial a hundred times, only to find that 5:30 and 10:00 tables remain for my desired date. I usually take the 5:30 and request to be called when a better time opens up...it almost always does. It's been a few years since my last visit to Jean Georges, but I don't recall it being too difficult, with advance planning, to get a table. Daniel is the easiest of the bunch. Let us know what you decide.

I've heard good things about Yardley. The meal you had sounds great, but I'm not ready to die for any dessert. Are they BYO?

I guess this can sort of evolve into "the best of Bucks and Hunterdon", but I'd like to hear answers to the above query from regulars at Matt Ridgway's now-shuttered Pass in Rosemont. My only criteria are: intelligent, creative chef, using fresh, often local, ingredients, serving wine-friendly food in a BYO setting.

I'll start things off by repeating my previous claim: Maize on Main is probably Bucks County's best restaurant (since my last visit, however, the tasting menu has disappeared from their web site. Not sure if it has also disappeared from their menu). I'm also a fan of Hamilton's Grill Room (a bit controversial, if recent posts on this subject are any indication, but I've never had a disappointing meal there and the setting is lovely), D'Floret (Dennis Foy has quite a following and most, but not all, of my meals there have been quite enjoyable), Caleb's American Restaurant in Lahaska (food gets a solid 8/10, service sometimes a bit spotty, the room can get noisy on a busy Friday or Saturday, but his Farmer's Dinners are a real highlight).

So, there are my four alternatives to The Pass. What are yours?

Plans are tentative at this time, but I imagine we'll spend the first day and evening in Halifax.
