Sadly, I don't see anything happening there. Bereft of bakery bread I am.

I wish they would bring back the toasted coconut covered cashews. Those were the best ever.

I have a microwave cookbook and make all sorts of different things. Everything from baked potatoes to stuffed mushrooms to Chicken Fricasee and Swedish Meatballs. I suggest you check out your local library or search online for websites devoted to microwave cooking.

I always offer to help with cleanup and don't mind at all, yet I would never dream of asking or accepting help when I am hosting. Isn't that odd?

I wish my parents had taught me. I had to learn on my own. I need to teach my son. Thank you KarenDW.

Sheesh, I'm with you Sunshine. I am more at risk of lower life expectancy from what I eat than what I eat it with.

Enjoy life!

My twin niece and nephew (now 5) came over last year to help with holiday cookies. I have a picture of myself at their age with my grandmother. I was standing on a chair and putting colored nonpareils on her anisette cookies. It is never too early for children to help somehow. I roll out dough and they pick out the cookie cutters and press them out. My niece likes to sprinkle the different colored sugars, but I found out the hard way she cannot handle the sprinkle top! Instead I pour some out in a custard cup and she pinches and sprinkles. My nephew likes to use the electric cookie gun for spritz cookies. They also both enjoy adding and mixing ingredients.

I 100% agree. Always give recipes when asked. Anyone that has ever tried to recreate a beloved recipe that was not revealed (for whatever reason) can relate.

Yep. Ours went off at 6:30am. The turkey (28lbs) was too large for my roasting pan so one wing hung over the side a tiny bit. Of course the fat started dripping to the bottom of the oven and smoke was billowing throughout the house.

Then no one ate my soup again for the second year in a row. Last year Carrot Ginger, this year Pumpkin. I swear my family will only eat French Onion. Sigh.

DH is on a quest to recreate a poppy seed roll that his mother used to make in the 70's. He found this recipe:

http://easteuropeanfood.about.com/od/...

But used canned Solo poppy seed filling, as he remembers her doing. Well, it was not good. Too strong of a bird seed taste. I think he needs to add something to the filling, fruit, honey, sugar, something, but we have no idea what to do.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

I could be wrong but it seems the teenager being described is obligated to attend the Thanksgiving celebration. Given the choice, perhaps she would prefer to celebrate with the OP, but not sure that's a viable option or the Bahamas either.

Being a teenager she will not legally be able to imbibe (in US) so not sure the alcohol would help.

If she is unsure about the hostess, she could always hold off on bringing out the food until the drama has subsided.

I have no idea how much wine is. If someone told me thirty seven fifty, yup, I would assume $37.50. The restaurant has some culpability here. She should have clearly stated three thousand seven hundred fifty or at the very least thirty seven hundred. Sounds a bit scammy.

Sure, you can use flour. Or cornstarch slurry or some use instant potatoes to thicken. Personally, I am not as particular in saying there is a "correct" method to use.
