Absolutely, but the OP mentioned that they'll be here on a Sunday and Kissa Tanto is closed.

Savio Volpe is currently my favourite Italian restaurant - tough to get a reso though. They're very accommodating to walk-in's., especially if you're early. St. Lawrence has been on my radar and looks amazing. Would you be interested in Japanese? Dosanko has been getting a lot of love on social media lately. Good luck!

PS There's an app called DINR that lets the restaurant notify you of same-day, last minute cancellations. Savio Volpe and St. Lawrence are both on there.

I agree! their pasta certainly doesn't come close to Savio Volpe's or Kissa Tanto or even Nook. Add to that a no-reservation policy and tables that are WAY too close together...we've not been back.

I bought some this year, about 6 weeks ago. That's the only place I know of that brings them in annually.
PS I used them for burgers as well. People have declared it the best burger they've ever had.

Just heard today that Emma Lea Farms in Ladner/Westham Island has their second crop of strawberries ready for picking or pick-up.

I believe I saw some on Granville Island about 10 days ago - can anyone else confirm? Also, check Whole Foods.

At the moment I'd have to say Kissatanto is the hot spot. Almost impossible to get a reservations online but they accept walk-in's. I ate there a couple of weeks ago and thought it was awesome.

I saw canned hominy Friday on Granville Island at the little Mexican store.

I bought some buffalo mozzarella on Vancouver Island last summer - I think it was about $15 for a small ball. Total disappointment. Tasted nothing like the real thing. The last time I had the "real" stuff was at Eataly in New York. I'll have to check out what they have at La Grotta.

If your husband works downtown why not call up one of the nicer hotel restaurants and ask if they can help you out, after all they do room service all the time - take out shouldn't be that hard for them.

Thanks for the recommendation - I read your post about it and am planning on going on our Brooklyn daytrip.

Better late than never, right? I just re-read my post and realized I never responded......so here it is - it WAS a mistake! I should have kept Maialino..... - Il Corso was a big let-down all around.....average (but expensive) pasta, cheesy atmosphere - I had such high hopes! Maialino, on the other hand, was amazing. Pasta's were very good, but the suckling pig was nothing short of amazing. We're coming back next month and Maialino is on our list again. I'm surprised more people don't order it....

Yes it does seems like a great deal, considering the suckling pig is now $58 pp.....by the way the rabbit is now $62...perhaps because of the no tipping thing...which by the way I am a fan of. Still....$62 for two people in NY....a veritable bargain!

I kind of feel like if I'm paying $90 for a chicken want it to be something really memorable.....like the suckling pig at Maialino.....at the moment I'm leaning towards Maialino....thanks for your input.

Oh boy this is making my decision even harder! I've seen pics of the crispy pig face and it looks amazing. Can you tell me how they prepared the rabbit? I've always been a bit underwhelmed when I've had it at restaurants.

We went to Tasty and Alder for breakfast and dinner - breakfast was better. In fact it was great. Go.

We went to Maialino last year around this time and tried the roast suckling pig - it was divine and I'd be more than happy to have it again. But that chicken at Nomad looks really intriguing..and delicious - would anyone care to chime in on my dilema?

I'm hoping that as a results of all the fires in Northern BC and Alberta we might get to see a bumper crop of morels....soon.

Hi Greyelf! Just nabbed a reservation at Coquine for our visit at the end of the month. Can't wait to give it a try. Any particular dishes that you loved? (that they still have..). My first visit to Portland, by the way.

Our little neighbourhood is turning into quite the foodie destination! Keep us posted. Hopefully we can stay in the neighbourhood a while longer before they buy up our block and build more condo's....'cause Lord knows Cambie Street needs more condo's...

I hope the management of Sorella do a google search on their restaurant - apparently there are already 15 reviews....I think the name was changed but the reviews from Pied-a-terre remain. And they weren't stellar.

That being said I'm excited to see what they have to offer - another interesting addition to the 'hood!

You might want to consider Vij's for upscale Indian food or their sister restaurant, Rangoli. Be warned - Vij's doesn't take reservations and the wait can be long so best to get there as soon as they open (at 5 pm, I believe). Rangoli is more casual but delicious nonetheless.

LR - have you not tried the ones at :Long's on Main Street? Sitting at a table with strangers takes some getting used to but I'll do it for those xlb's.....

No but thanks for the intel - I'm in that area quite often. Nice addition to a rather boring intersection.

Thank you nycguy! Lobster is hard to come by in Vancouver (sort of - good lobster rolls are impossible to find) so I'm looking forward to several lobster rolls around town! Pearl Oyster is at the top of my list.

3 of the 4 of us are of legal age so it won't be a problem. Your suggestion sounds great, or we might just go out and get some dessert afterwards. Depends on how hungry everyone is when we leave.

I am now on the wait list for Maialino....and we have plans to go to Bar Pitti on another day. I've heard good things about Marea too...but I think it might be a bit beyond our budget - we are travelling with two grown children with very healthy appetites so every night there will be four of us dining. I'm sure where ever we land we'll have better Italian than we have here in Vancouver.

Since I'm here, this is my list of restaurants - I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions:

Monday: Les Halle (close to our hotel in the Financial District)
Tuesday: Il Corso or Maialino
Wednesday: El Quinto Pino
Thursday: Brindle Room for burgers
Friday: Bar Pitti
Saturday: undecided - maybe pizza
Sunday: Bowery Meat Co. (our splurge dinner)
Monday: Lupa
