A visit to the NYBG is a great excuse to go to Arthur Ave in the Bronx. The last time we went we ate at Zero Otto Novo, best pizza, and the other food was delicious as well. There are many old school Italian restaurants there and Italian markets, bakeries, and cafes. Obviously a destination in itself, so it’s great to combine it with the NYBG given the proximity.

Lenny and Joe's in Westbrook is a personal favorite for a casual sit down place whenever I'm in the area! They also have a more self service place in Madison.

I'm always trying to get a good loaf of bread to bring back with me whenever I go to the city, this list is great! For bagels, Ess-A is my favorite, Brooklyn Bagel is also really good.

If you want veggies that do not involve peeling and chopping you have fewer options: baby carrots, radishes, cherry tomatoes, pickling cucumbers. To eat more veggies I try to substitute raw vegetables for crackers or bread. Use lettuce as wraps, use cut up raw veggies (peppers, cucumbers) or steamed veggies (green beans, zucchini, potatoes) for dipping. Add spinach to smoothies.

The sandwich at Fuku is pretty good.
Love Russ and Daughters Cafe.
Been meaning to try Mamoun's but haven't made it.

I would take them somewhere unique to NYC that is more basic but does it well. Possibly somewhere from this list (multiple pages): https://www.theinfatuation.com/new-yo...

The last time I went to Blue Note, we ate at Freeman's beforehand. They don't take reservations, but showed up around 6PM and snagged a table, they filled up quickly while we were there. Interesting cockatils and tasty food, nice casual atmosphere.

Artichoke Basile's Pizza @ 1st and 14th
Baohaus @ 2nd and 14th
Xi'an Famous Foods @ 1st and 8th

Yes, it is the same venue, but Opentable has it broken out as two separate spots and I don't know which one to make the reservation for. The rooftop seems to have more availability, but if weather is not nice that could be bad. If weather is nice, could be fantastic, but am curious if maybe the rooftop vibe is more clubby, can't tell if eating a full dinner there would be uncomfortable and it would be better to eat downstairs and head up there either before or after dinner.

Trying to pick a venue for fun, clubby, birthday dinner date for two that involves steak. Which STK location has the best vibe? Is STK Rooftop sufficient for a full dinner or would the regular restaurant STK Meatpacking be better?

I have to update my own post here...the past few times I've ordered Renapoli it has been extremely disappointing. The ingredients do not seem to be the high quality they used to be and the sauce is sweeter. Wonder if the new restaurant is getting all the attention or if this place changed management. Was my favorite, too bad!

I would try a cod chowder with potatoes, or maybe a curried fish stew.

I ate at Alle Testiere this past week, it was delicious and so reasonably priced for the quality you are getting. Appetizers were particularly intriguing and special. (Made a reservation a week in advance for a weekday, only 9:30PM slot was available)

I found the recs on this board extremely helpful! It was my first trip to Venice!

We stayed at Bauer so got to enjoy the complimentary breakfast on their outdoor terrace and had cocktails there one night, it is a beautiful spot.

Also had lovely dinners, fish based, at Osteria Ai Promessi Sposi (got one of the last 2 tables walking in on a weekday) and Trattoria Corte Sconta (made a reservation a week in advance and only 7PM was available).

Had lunches at cafes here and there, all were fine and a dinner by the Rialto Market, food fine, but price was high, paying for the canal side spot. And had to try a Bellini at Harry's Bar, but the experience was lackluster.

Late night we sat at a Cafe in San Marco square and listened to the pop-up bands play. Thought it would be touristy but was very romantic!

Found it surprising how much drink prices varied by location. Bauer, Harry's, and the square were 15-25 Euros while glasses of wine were 3 Euros at other restaurants and enotecas! Certainly allows you to try many!

If you're just looking for something simple, maybe a pizza place would do it best. Possibly Remo's Pizza in Stamford?

Everytime food heats and cools you are more susceptible to bacteria forming. If the ingredients start cold, keeping the sandwich cold is best.

I would suggest Little Pub in Cos Cob, it gets crowded but if you sit in the dining room it is not too loud, also cheaper.
Or maybe Le Fat Poodle in Old Greenwich, trendy and gets crowded but not overly loud, make a reservation.
Or possibly Zaza in Stamford, its tapas so may be less expensive.

What do they taste like? Delicious!!
They are perfectly crisp, a little sweet, a little salty. Some like hob nobs have oats and are more textured. They definitely do not have that molasses flavor some graham crackers have, are more like animal cookies. Would make a delicous s'more!

I really like Renapoli in Old Greenwich. They make a sicilian style but I have never tried it. Considering how good the other styles are it is probably worth trying!

Try drinking apple cider vinegar, mix a tablespoon or so with water, or make a shrub type drink with juice and water.

Apparently one used to be able to buy these anywhere around Miami Beach, but now they are much harder to find. Where can I get a good colada in the area?

Thanks all, I like to think I know a lot about food and food safety but I did not realize that once opened a jar of pasta sauce will really only last a week in the fridge. Salsa, jelly, ketchup etc can last months so I suppose that's where my misconception came from.
I will have to portion out and freeze.

Everytime I leave an opened jar of pasta sauce in the fridge for more than a couple weeks it gets a big chunk of mold on top. It has happened with various brands and with the jar stored in different locations in the fridge, on the door and on the shelf.
I either pour it from the jar into a cold pan so no steam gets in or use a clean spoon and always screw the lid back on tight. Does anyone else have this problem? What am I doing wrong? This doesn't happen with any other product in my fridge.

I don't think so, but obviously with different chefs and managers at each things will be different. The bartenders at the Greenwich location are much better too, more professional and knowledgeable.

I have eaten recently at Greenwich and Stamford, and a while ago in South Norwalk. I think the food at the one in Greenwich is better, I also enjoy the atmosphere more. I also like how the bar space in Greenwich is larger and not enclosed.

My first thought was a reminder to myself that today was a complimentary Thanksgiving lunch at the office (with fried turkeys!) and therefore to have a light breakfast, I ate a grapefruit after hitting the gym!

Thanks for replying to your post. I have come across a few recipes that call for it and it sounds tastier than regular flours! Had only not found it at Stop&Shop and Whole Foods in Greenwich but didn't realize it was not so readily available.
