Bump. Please recommend me where to get good a chicken francese platter.

I place uncooked Bazmati rice inside a bag made out of cheesecloth and put it inside the stew. I make sure to leave enough room in the bag for the rice to expand otherwise it will combine into one big mushy ball of rice. The rice absorbs all the flavors.

That pot looks amazing! I'm trying to stay within my budget, though, so it's more than $100, I can't afford it. My 5 quart Dutch oven cost $90.

What kind of pot do you use for making a long-simmering meat stew and what size is it? Do you fill it to the top? I use a 5 quart Dutch oven and it gets quite crowded in there once I pour the water in and put the rice bag on top. Sometimes I have to remove a few pieces of potato so that I can put the lid on tightly.

Can I use a large stockpot instead? Stockpots, from what I read, are not designed for oven use.

Where in Manhattan can I buy duck eggs during the winter? My usual source at the farmer's market are gone for the season.

Juice-o-logy on 8th avenue & 29th St. have excellent soups that they make from scratch. I recommend their Veggie Quinoa soup.

They close at 8pm, though.

Have any of you tried the Japanese hibachi restaurant tucked away on 82nd St. between Columbus and Amsterdam on the UWS? I passed by it on a whim and didn't even know that it existed.

I love the beer-battered fish & chips at Oscar's Place on Hudson. I tried Icelandic Fish & Chips and was pretty disappointed with the lack of flavor, small portions, and that the "chips" (roasted potatoes) have to be ordered separately.

I can't stand it when the decibel level in the restaurant is too high to even hear myself speaking let alone those whom I'm dining with. I recall a recent dinner at The Smith which was so loud that it hurt my ears and gave me a headache. I felt like I had just left a heavy metal concert with slight ringing after just 1 hour there. The food and service were both great, but there's no chance that I'm returning because of the high decibel level. I know that restaurants can and do control the acoustics in the room by using material that absorbs sound. Since when is loud and uncomfortable considered to be "hip", "young," and "trendy"? Do any of you enjoy such restaurants or know someone who does? It'd like to know how they manage to survive a dinner with painfully loud noise without wearing earplugs.

Pasta dough resting in the fridge? I thought that's a no-no. I learned that it has to rest at room temperature

I'm sorry to inform you all that after trying Ootoya for the first time today, I will never be back. I ordered the Tori Sauce Ju which was was too small of a portion for $20 and dark meat with many inedible parts, i.e. skin. I asked them to substitute white meat instead, but they refused to do so. I left the restaurant finishing most of the meal (except for those inedible parts), but I was still hungry. Maybe I ordered the wrong item?

I simply dip Ciabatta bread from Sullivan Street Bakery or Miche bread from She Wolf in it. The oil doesn't need any herbs or spices added to it because it already has a lot of flavor. I might mix it with my homemade sun-dried tomatoes at some point, though, before dipping the bread but that's just because I'm a sun-dried tomatoholic.

If it doesn't burn the back of your throat, then it doesn't have oleocanthal which is naturally occurring in olives----unless oleocanthal doesn't always cause a burning sensation.

How else do you know if you're consuming real EVOO?

I took the plunge recently and bought a 500 ml bottle of Demi Olive Oil for $20. It was definitely worth it. Great flavor! How do I know that it's authentic, undiluted EVOO? It gave me a slight burning sensation at the back of my throat. Fake and/or diluted EVOO wouldn't cause that sensation. I'll buy it once every few months because it is expensive, although at $20 it's a bargain because Fresh Direct sells it for $29. I've seen even more expensive EVOO at Whole Foods. I'm not sure the vendor is there all year round at the Chelsea farmers market, though. Will have to ask.

I've only tried Ottomanelli's filet mignon in the village, but I'm looking for another (better) option

It appears to be that ramp season is over unless you don't mind buying just the ramp bulbs that I saw today without the leaf and stem. I hope I'm wrong

Apparently, after June 1st, Eggslut will stop selling egg sandwiches. I guess the sandwiches aren't selling well like they are in LA

Have any of you tried or heard of Demi Olive Oil sold at the Down to Earth greenmarket in Chelsea on Saturdays? I have yet to find a review of it online.

Burried Treasures sells ramps for $4 for a pretty large bunch at USQ Greenmarket. Other vendors sell them for $5 and one of them even sells it for $7 per bunch. Is there any reason to buy the more expensive ones? If they were organic, I might consider to buy them, but, alas, they're not organic, just more expensive.

Thank you! I bought another bunch today and was told that ramps will be around for 1 month from now

Have any of your tried St. Clair's Animal Farm butter? I heard it's available for a limited time at Saxelby Cheesemongers and sells out quickly despite its $50 per lb price tag.

Which stores sell Meadow Butter from Kreimhild? I tried Murray's Cheese and Whole Foods, but no luck

what do you use the ramps for? I use them in mashed potatoes, eggs and meat

I bought a few bunches of ramps today. Now the question is how to store them properly so that they can last for a while
