Originally from So. Cal., I have always enjoyed In-N-Out and the ultra expensive Fatburger. I have only recently had the opportunity to try Culver's now that they are expanding rapidly out West. An older thread, I know, but I had to comment and pick Culver's in the Throw Down. The fresh ingredients along with the varied menu and nice restaurant decor gave them an edge. Like another foodie said, they have friendly and helpful employees (and with your numbered tent card bring the food to your table). In a nod to In-N-Out, they also keep the place really clean!

There used to be a Big Boy restaurant in Lake Havasu City, Arizona a few years ago before it was closed in another thinning out of the BB chain. The waitress would ask if we wanted our Big Boy Classic in the Western (red relish) or Eastern (1000 island) style preparation. Now, I grew up next to Whittier, CA when the car hop service was still operating. They served up my favorite, red relish Bob's Big Boy hamburgers.

Yes it was. It has been quite a while since I logged on here to find your reply as you can see.

Family Diner type food, but good, I enjoy Blue Berry Hill Restaurant. Most of their batters are made from scratch. Food is not too bad. They are locally owned with a few locations near Henderson. Check online. Some are open 24-7.

I will second on Weiss'. Located in the Trader Joe's strip mall on Sunset and Green Valley. I love their chicken salad sandwich!

I just watched one of those Infomercials, this time advertising the NuWave PIC (induction cooking/warming unit).
Has anyone out there tried it and if so, offer any pros and cons?
Thanks,

We have the Keurig Platinum coffee brewer and love it. I know that on a cup by cup basis there are many machines that are a lot cheaper to brew but, we will just call the Keurig an indulgence. As previously mentioned, there are so many varieties of coffee, tea, hot cocoa, etc to choose from. Most stores including grocery, Walmart and so on carry at least some flavors. I drink my regular and decaf coffee without extra additives so the creamers and other extras are not important to me. I have not used the Flavia, Tassimo or similar products so cannot speak about them. Our Keurig brewer needs the water reservoir filled, then the proper cup size button pushed then you are ready to brew. Throw the K-cup in the trash and that is it.
There are also several different ways to store and display the many different K-cups as listed on their website.

I know that chains like T.G.I. Fridays get picked apart quite a bit in here and some of the critique I agree with. I do, however, love the Jack Daniel's sauce and glaze used of various menu items. It seems as though it is not available for purchase in the stores. Can anyone help me locate it or a similar sauce. I have seen some recipes that are suppose to taste just like it.
Thanks,

There seems to be just one, in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is just too long of a drive from Arizona. Looks like you can order their 'Q' sauce online and maybe get a franchise open for all of us!

Thanks Bob for all the interesting information. My family was friends with one of the managers of the Alpha Beta store in Pico Rivera, CA. Please let me know if the last name, 'Heron' rings a bell. Not absolutely sure on spelling. We lost touch with the family over the past few decades. Again, Thanks!

I am not ashamed to admit that I enjoy Famous Dave's. I have "Feast"ed there on more than one occasion. I may try Memphis next time I am up in L.V.
Thanks, seal.

I just surfed into the Memphis BBQ website and must say, the photos and description of the food sure looks good. I have tried other BBQ joints (both chain and Mom & Pop) and am always looking for good 'Q'. Anyone have any good or bad comments about them?
Thanks,

OK, thanks. I was trying to remember the name of the restaurant owned by Robert Shields.

Good question. We too are thinking about the HoneyBaked Turkey and Ham. We have always loved the ham and wonder how well they prepare their turkeys. I have the booklet from HoneyBaked which I ordered from the website.

Haa, yes, toodie jane, I agree. After I typed my critique of the restaurant, I edited my notation to make sure I included Pismo Beach as the location. NOT Pete's Pierside on the Harford Pier in Avila Beach. We may drive up to Morro Bay tomorrow then return to Pismo Beach Lighthouse Suites for our last night on the Central Coast before returning to the HOT Arizona desert. Maybe we will try the Bayside Cafe. I believe I got a cup of coffee there years ago. And regarding glbtrtr comments, I had to laugh. When we were in HotLix at Pismo the other night, one of the employees tried to get me to try a meal worm. Although it looked delicious, I respectfully declined.

Ok, here is the latest Hebrew National Hot Dog sightings at Costco. To date they are still at the Henderson, Nevada and the Santa Maria, California Costcos! Keep letting management know we still want the HN deal! Not Firklands.

What a difference a year makes. Last September (2008), we made our trek to downtown Pismo Beach to eat at the Pierside Seafood Restaurant. It has always been a.....well.....uhhhh.......lets just call it a 'built on the beach, beachy style restaurant' where the deep fried fish & chips were pretty good.

Now, Sept. 22, 2009, we ate at the Pierside at sundown this evening. What a difference one year can make. The place was pretty empty, it was a Tuesday evening after all. We were seated up stairs which has a commanding view of the Pismo Pier extending out into the Pacific Ocean. Now, if you could just see through the filthy windows. The view also looked down on the torn fabric covered patio. All the tables were dirty when we first arrived. After being escorted to our table, we had to wait while a feeble attempt was made to wipe down one of the filthy tables. Once seated on the nicely duct taped booths, we ordered. The food was delivered promptly by a pleasent waitress who had to climb up and down the stairs. We noticed that the food portions had been cut down in size. Most prices increased. The little extras that management apparently feel customers don't care about (ie, salt water taffey at end of meal) have been eliminated. Even all of the fiberglass fish and other aquatic life replicas were missing.

If there are indeed new owners like we heard, one would hope that they get their act together soon, before they lose any more customers. My wife told me that she would like to avoid the Pierside Seafood restaurant on our next trip up to the Central Coast.

My wife and I travel up to the Central Coast from HOT Arizona almost every Sept. One of our absolute favorite food stops is Paula's Pancakes. Like other comments, the place can be busy and the parking challenging if you opt to park in front of Paula's. They only serve breakfast and lunch and although it is a small restaurant, it does have outside patio seating if you wish. The Swedish pancakes along with the eggs and sausage or bacon is wonderful I always enjoy their fresh squeezed orange juice and top it all off with a cup of coffee.
