Yeah, the searches for group dining yield results from 10 and more years ago... the Boulet, etc. Places that have been closed for years.

Right now I am just looking for suggestions for restaurants that accommodate large groups (about 20) without making it private dining.

European (including Mediterranean) and American cuisine. Anywhere in the city, some areas of Brooklyn (downtown, Williamsburg, Greenpoint).

No geographical restrictions in the city. We can do Williamsburg, Greenpoint, downtown Brooklyn as well.

“Not too expensive” - what I see right now for private dining is about $100 WITHOUT drinks plus all kinds of fees.

For example, “Dinner Food and Beverage Minimum: 2,700 (Tax, gratuity, and 5% administrative fee are additional)” and a requirement of $95 per person pre fixe. So it comes down to about $180 per person, $360 per couple...

Ideally, it would be a place that allows to order a la carte (even if they only take one CC for payment), so guests can have flexibility....

Looking for a restaurant that can accommodate about 20 people for a birthday dinner, not necessarily private dining. I’ve been looking into private room arrangements and it seems to be too expensive, unfortunately (with high minimums, room or administrative fees, etc.)

European (including Mediterranean) and American cuisine. Appropriate to the occasion (i.e., festive) setting.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice!

Hi,

We are coming to Scottsdale from New York for a wedding and staying at JW Marriott Camelback Inn-Scottsdale Resort & Spa. We've never been to AZ before, so have no concept of the place/distance and no concept of the food specialties, if any. Looking for a recommendation for a birthday dinner with friends within reason distance from the hotel.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for such a detailed review! What is the vibe there? Is it stuffy/formal or more relaxed? What is the noise level? I've made reservation there for an out-of-town guest but now that I hear more about what they like (less formal, more lively), I started to doubt whether it's the right place...and i have not been there myself yet.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Didn't find the pretheater menu on the Esca site...
Don Antonio seems too casual but good to know about.

Ever been at Vice Versa or Orso? Critic's pick on NY Mag site, for what it's worth

Thanks. That's what i am considering, although the time they have available is not the best...was wondering what other options are available...

Too fancy would be very formal and expensive - e.g., Barbetta, Bouley.

Price range that I would prefer would be Moderate/$$ in New York Magazine and Zagat system.

Hi,

I am looking for an Italian restaurant for dinner in Hell's Kitchen, closer to the 50s. I love Mercato, which is often mentioned here, but that would be too far for a bunch of old ladies to walk.
Nothing too fancy or expensive but it's a birthday dinner.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your response! I'll call to confirm. Do you think this very nice man will get annoyed if I start asking about no meat, etc.? When I asked this question over the e-mail, after being told "feel free to ask any questions", I received NO response... I also read in several reviews that diners with dietary limitations were not served... maybe an exaggeration... but it appears that the chef gets easily offended "because he takes food seriously" if something is not his way (e.g., "Madam you have to eat it in one bite")...
So, on one hand, I don't want to come across as too difficult in advance. On the other hand, my dining companion can easily forgo a few meat dishes and still eat poultry but I don't want any scenes during dinner: it's a special occasion and it would be extremely unpleasant to be reprimanded during dinner...

Since you are such a devoted and passionate fan, you might know the answer to my question: does the chef accommodate requests such as "no mammals" (e.g., seafood and poultry is ok)? It seems that I have secured a reservation (didn't see any confirmation yet, was told that I will receive it 2 weeks prior - is that a regular policy?) but after 45 minutes of non-stop redialing and then a long time on hold when it seemed like the call was dropped, I was too unnerved to ask...
Is 4 weeks for wine license definite or could be more? I don't want to think what the price tag for wine pairings will be... keeping the fingers crossed for the BYOB...

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Looking for a good place to have a birthday dinner for about 10-12 people in 2 weeks (so short notice). Birthday girl is a foodie, so need interesting/quality food but not too expensive.

Would appreciate any recommendations/ideas.

Thanks!
