You'll have to head up to Gettysburg to Caprine Delight for raw goat milk and raw goat milk cheeses.

http://www.localharvest.org/caprine-d...

You can also purchase Caprine Delight's raw goat milk at Your Family Farmer in Chambersburg. They also sell raw cow's milk, chicken, eggs, pork and beef. Everything raised at Your Family Farmer is organic, pastured, and soy-free. I've been their customer for years and can honestly say that I've never been disappointed.

Hi Russ. Yes, I know the history of the two; however, Tjs has been regarded as the "affordable" luxury provider located in more affluent areas and Aldi as the lower-income, cheap price grocery located in poorer neighborhoods. $52/lb iberico ham, patès, fancy imported cheese, etc are changing that perception. Not to mention the expanding organic products.

I've begun stopping into Aldi as an alternative to tjs. It seems Aldi is sourcing some of tjs discontinued products. Iberico ham, verified proscuito di parma even racine's kringles.

Potlucks were popular at a former employer; over 100 would participate. I've made devilled eggs from 15 dozen eggs. Took empty trays to work several days prior to event. Cooked the eggs two days before. Cut the eggs and made the devilled yolk mixture the night before. Placed the egg whites in a couple containers and the yolk mixture in separate containers. Spent a half hour or so filling the whites at work prior to mealtime. This way doesn't take up a lot of space in the home fridge. You can even purchase pre-cooked and shelled eggs to save time and shelling mess.

I have a 22 quart electric roaster. I've made 150 stuffed shells and stored them in the roasting pan over-night in the fridge and cooked them at work.

I've also used the roaster to cook/heat a couple of hams, chili, sausage and sauer kraut and soup.

Rice krispy treats are an easy and storage-friendly dessert that gets gobbled very quickly.

Triple ginger brew is back on the shelves. Hopefully this year's batch avoids the exploding bottles issue of last year.

I've never heard of lingonberries or cranberries being served with cepelinai. We Lithuanians don't like to lighten our gutbusters!

Depends on how addicted you become! Also, cepelinai make a fantastic breakfast. Slice them in half length-wise and heat them in butter until, at least the flat/meat side, is nicely browned and crispy.

And remember, bacon fat is your friend. So when you fry the diced bacon with onion, don't drain the fat away. It gets spooned over the cepelinai along with the bacon and onion bits.

If you want to some extra assistance in arriving at hibernation weight, you can add some half-and-half or light cream to the bacon and onion mixture.

One good thing about the juicer is that the potatoes are automatically "squeezed" for you. Just remember to save the starch that settles at the bottom of the potato juice.

If you have a cheese grater blade, that would be closer to the texture.

here is a youtube link that has a really good view of the preparation of cepelinai. granted, it's for 100 lbs. the food processor does not give the proper texture. if you have a juicer, that would be a better option. you might also want to purchase some potato starch in case the amount of starch from the drained potatoes is insufficient.

sunflower seeds are mia. supposedly getting a new supplier and they should be back on shelves by the second week in September. and they just, pretty recently, got the raw ones back after more than a year off the shelves due to pasteurization issues.

i used to have a favorite restaurant close to where i worked that i would visit at least once a week for either lunch or dinner. one year my mother was in one of her "moods" and said that she didn't want to go anywhere for mother's day. well, that is until 1pm on mother's day when she asked me where my father and i were taking her. we went to my regular place and when we arrived, of course there was a line out the door. i went up to the hostess to ask her how long the wait would be so that i could judge whether to request to be put on the list or just go and take mom to chez mickey d's. when i asked her about the wait, she winked at me, said she'd be right back, and went into the kitchen. when she came back, she winked again and said that the owner remembered taking our reservation but forgot to put it in the book. if we could accept his apologies, a table would be ready for us soon. five minutes later, we were seated.
did i feel a little guilty? yes. but i, also, felt appreciated. as said in other posts, regulars keep businesses in business.
