In Boston for the Beanpot Tournament wanting a local joint for breakfast.

Thought they wanted turkey but now the request is Beef Wellington. We will be in a VRBO so need to know the name of a good butcher.

We will be in a VRBO for Christmas week. We arrive Sat. 12/23. Where can I buy a 24# bird to cook on Christmas day? No time to thaw a frozen one and everyone wants to eat IN that day.

Thank you Claudette. We've decided on HdelS. I'm posting another question you may be able to answer.

We will be 13 family members all above 23. Visiting for a week in a VRBO and want a special night out. Hacienda del Sol, Westward Look, Feast and Arizona Inn. Most are foodies and we enjoy wine. Suggestions appreciated. Another night we would like to visit a steakhouse.

We were there briefly at the beginning of 12 heavenly days in Provence. Tired from our flight, we asked our hotel for a rec., wanting typical Provencal food not too far away. Le Bistrot Campra was her suggestion. Easily found and early (7:30) we were seated for our most memorable meal. My husband had the foie gras as his entrée, which was on the "starter" list. I had calves liver prepared in typical fashion, with parsley and garlic. So much better than our bacon and onions. With a liter of "vin de maison" our bill was about 57 Euros. Very friendly service and good English spoken although I was trying out my high school French which they appreciated.

We had bowls of soup in NYC and really enjoyed it. Is there some place to find same in NW suburbs, or even elsewhere?

I would say Bob's Red Mill coarse corn meal is as close to authentic as possible.

All this clam talk is what I was looking for except on The Cape near Orleans. Any suggestions?

Think I'll give it to my son. He makes pasta. Thanks to all of you for your replies.

I've had it on my list for a long time but cannot remember why I wanted it. I wanted to make something! Well, now I have about 2 cups so any suggestions?

Thank you all for your replies. Way more than I can absorb. I'll hang onto the can for a yr. or so in case I get a craving to fry something.

Hard to find discussions on local, moderately priced lunch spots. Any suggestions? We fly in around noon then head south.

My husband came home with a 42 oz. can of "shortening" to make biscuits. I have always used butter. It says it is prepared from meat fats and vegetable oils with mono- and diglycerides added, BHA and BHT also. Sounds BAD to me! Should I just pitch the rest of the can or is there something else for me to do with it? The biscuits were like hockey pucks.

We were at Brown's last week and could not believe $96.00 for two large containers of fried clams. We are Midwesterners now but grew up in Boston and had one chance for clams with real bellies. What a ripoff. Breading was too thick and I swear some of the bodies were quahogs. The strip part on some were hardly chewable. If I had known our itinerary I would have checked with hounds. "Don't leave home without them!!" Chowhounds rock!!!

We stopped at the Corner Grill in Bowling green. I had the crawfish, like little poppers, and hubby a good breakfast. Such nice people. The cook made up a special remoulade for me as I had asked if they had any.
Heard from a Miami student that The Spot in Sidney is another place we must visit.

Have not been to Tallulah's, Social, or the Stand. Lunch menus look good so want to hit one. Any ideas? Maybe go to another for dinner.
That will FUN!

OMG! We are returning to LA after 45 years in a couple of weeks and I spent hours trying to find The Marquis. My husband would take me there with clients occasionally and it was an amazing experience for a very young Pasadena wife. A fellow played a guitar and sang. Don't remember the food but it was fantastic people watching. A handsome fellow tried to pick up my college roommate saying he was Shirley McLain's brother. Yeah sure........

Scandia, with deep fried parsley, was the ultimate experience for a 22 yr. old Bostonian. I know we cannot replicate but we will be in town for a wedding 11/23, staying at the Millennium Biltmore. May I have a suggestion for Fri. night dinner. Not ethnic but perhaps seafood or game. We know we want to go to Langer's Deli, my husband's lunch spot, on Sat. Thanks.

My husband came home with a giant jar of green, really GREEN, olives for Costco recently. Can't tell you about them because I left them at the cabin up north. He says he sampled them and really liked them, hence the buy.

My son made a cassoulet and gave me the remaining tub of duck fat. What to do with it??

Went to the relatively new Barrel Back restaurant in Walloon Lake Village last week. A beautiful day to be on the lake from the second floor of the WL Marina. I have never been so impressed by the "space" of a restaurant -glorious views, giant glass rolling doors, which can open in temperate weather, central fireplace, outside balcony.
Reasonable prices for eclectic fare- tostadas of BBQ pork, personal pizzas, unique sandwiches. Nice not to have to go to Traverse for a new dining experience.

We have enjoyed The Willow Tree in West Branch. Good prices for well prepared food. They also have one in Fountain Sq. in Saginaw.

Rainsux, Plath's is a 1 1/2 hr destination for us once a summer. Heavenly, THICK smoked pork chops, bacon, jerky.
But what in the world is a tube steak at the IGA??

In Krakow a week ago and had a wonderful dinner at Pod Baranem. I was so intrigued with the flavors in the beetroot soup that our waiter told me all the ingredients. Heavenly!
