I love the Lakeline farmers market. I love the variety but yesterday when I went it was much more non-produce (meats, prepared foods, etc).

I haven't tried SaySheAte or WhereY'at but will. A friend ate a sandwich and some corn (I think) from Where Y'at one night at BoB and really liked it.

Yes! We are going on Friday night! I'm excited to check out some of the trucks from Austin and Canyon Lake that I haven't tried.

I looked around but didn't see any threads about the food trucks in San Antonio. With three thriving food truck parks, we have a lot of tasty food that can be eaten out of a truck (no, not a roach coach). My favorite is Rickshaw Stop. Other good ones are The Duk Truck (which is owned by Jason Dady), Wheelies, Guilty Pleasures, Spice Runner and Society Bakery. All great trucks to try out.

Ditto on the point about hitting City Market NOT Luling Barbecue. We love City Market.

My thought too - love the sausage at Smitty's or Kreuz's.

Lindasant - I used to feel exactly like you do when I first moved here 5 years ago but I've found that as you look around there are amazing restaurants right here in San Antonio. Everything is what you make it.

I was considering a trip to Elgin next weekend to check out Meyers and Southside Market but am wondering if these places are only good for sausage or if their other meats are good too? Brisket is most important to me if it makes a difference - so is one of them better for BBQ?

I agree with rexster, I would just add that I would smoke it without foil for the 6-7. Don't rush it though - cooking it low and slow is what keeps it moist. Brisket will be tough if rushed. Wrapping it in foil while cooking it in the oven will allow it to create its own yummy juices and cook in them. You've made me hungry :)

Thanks for your detailed response. I love that you mentioned the craft breweries, thats something we are interested in. Thanks again.

I worry about the rain also, I like a lot of outdoors activities and I'm worried that Portland would be too damp for hiking and such but it sounds like you don't think its that way?

I love Mexican food in San Antonio but I don't find the variety that I am looking for.
I used to live in Kansas City and love all of the little restaurants that are sprinkled throughout and LOVE Kansas City BBQ but I wouldn't expect to find that anywhere else :D

I'm doing a lot of research on cities I would like to relocate to and I'm wondering which of these cities wins the food category?? We like a wide variety of cuisines and I would love to live in a city that has a great variety of delicious foods. The cities that we are considering are:

Albuquerque, NM
Santa Fe, NM
Flagstaff, AZ
Denver, CO
Colorado Springs, CO
Portland, OR
Kansas City, MO
Austin, TX

Thanks- I ended up getting the groupon for free so I'm going to try it for free... can't beat that :D

Has anyone ever eaten at Cranky Frank's in Fredericksburg?? They have a deal on Groupon today and we will be in Fredericksburg next weekend so I'm thinking about buying it up. I LOVE BBQ so I'm super selective.

That could be... I haven't eaten there at night or even checked out their dinner menu but I used to have a friend who cooked there and when I asked him about the menu I recall him telling me that at night they "flip the table and change directions"... Next time I'll have to see if they have the Italian Creme Cake

I see that you have found the other board where our favorite is mentioned... we really really like Godai. The sushi is super great. I also like Kona Grill but thats a chain so I would go with Godai.

We went to Pam's today for lunch- its a cute little restaurant in a strip mall at Lockhill-Selma and Wurzbach. The weather was nice today but my boyfriend didn't want to eat outside so we sat down at a booth inside. I found it confusing to figure out how to order- I initially walked up to the registers and had to be redirected. The layout of the restaurant is really crowded but I think that the decor and color scheme were fun. I ordered the grilled chipotle chicken and my boyfriend ordered a jalapeno, pepperoni and meatball pizza. They give you focaccia which I found to be okay- the pieces varied a lot on their thickness and I like the thicker pieces better. Almost immediately after we ordered the place became a madhouse: the line was wrapping around the restaurant making it even harder to walk around in the restaurant. The brought my food before my boyfriends- which I thought was odd. My sandwich was WONDERFUL though- the chicken was fire grilled and the chipotle mayo was delicious. All of the sandwiches come with a pickle spear, some tortilla chips that are fried in house, a sweet and spicy fruit salsa, and an orange. When they finally brought my boyfriend's pizza it was wrong so we sent it back and it took them FOREVER to get him back a new one because they had gotten so busy. After about 30 mins they brought him his pizza which he thought was really really fabulous. I think that in the future we will call in an order and eat it at home because we really liked the food but thought the restaurant was hectic.

We will be headed to Dallas for a wedding and when we travel we like to check out some places that have good food and brew their own beer. Not really into just plain bar food but something more interesting- any suggestions??

Hmm thats an excellent idea- sounds easy I think I'll do that with at leas some of it.

Ive got some open Horseradish Dip and Jalapeno dip and needs some more ideas of how to use it up.

With the horseradish dip I've made a sauce for beef tenderloin, glazed a pork tenderloin with it, used it on Beef Dip sandwiches.

With the jalapeno dip I've glazed hamburgers, used it in mashed potatoes, put it on breakfast sandwiches, mixed it into scrambled eggs, made mac n cheese with it, put it on grilled and cold ham sandwiches.

I'm at a loss but don't want it to go bad its super yummy

I agree- we ate at an In N Out Burger in Phoenix on a strong recommendation and we couldn't understand why anyone was interested in eating there.

mmmm this makes me wish i was back in Kansas City and not stuck in San Antonio... except for the weather situation. But I digress...
I DEFINITELY say that Arthur Bryants wins BBQ and u gotta get burnt ends cause burnt ends are done right in KC
Fries- I love the fries at Bates City BBQ
D'Bronx is TOTALLLY the best Pizza
Best Italian is Lidias
Burgers have to be the ones my boyfriend makes so I can't ever get into burgers at restaurants

I agree completely- when I moved here from Kansas City I was so relieved to find Lockhart BBQ but the last time we went we were disappointed that we drove an hour and a half for it. We went later in the day though so I was hoping if we caught it early it would still be good... but then again maybe not.

I went to the BJs in Oklahoma City and wasn't at all impressed with the food- boring and I think that it was pre-prepared then warmed in their kitchen. We did the beer sampler and thought the beers were pretty good but nothing really stood out. If I wanted to go to a brewery in Austin I would definitely stick with NXNW. The food and beer are vastly superior.

My boyfriend and I are interested in checking out a Hill Country Winery but I would like to also like to have a good meal... any recommendations for a good winery with great food? I would also be interested in hearing in restaurant recommendations in Fredericksburg. We have done German there- of course- so I would like to try something else. Thanks for your thoughts.
