We loved both Piperno and Armando al Pantheon at lunch. The former is open on Sunday, the latter , not. We needed reservations for both.
Not surprised about Antichi Sapori.
Our best meal in Trani was At Bisrtot 27. Regional specialties( meat not fish) , no written menu, wonderful antipasto.
I am in Rome. Trust me, it's easy to see who is a tourist. All millions of us.
We did not find macchiato to be recognized in Puglia either, except in Trani.
We really enjoyed Piperno.
Also got reservations for lunch at Armando two days ahead,
Also, though on none of the lists we ate at La Segrestia our first night because it is literally next door to our hotel on via Seminario and though it is near the Pantheon it was really good and after 9 lots of Romans.
Late September and October are high season. We have repeatedly been advised to make reservations, or to go at lunch.
Jen, I am so glad to read this as this is our plan having so enjoyed this approach many years ago.
I guess so if you use canned beans, but they are far from ideal and it is better made with soaked but uncooked dried beans which are still pretty hard.
But people made felafel long before there were FPs.
Thank you so much! Do you know if Nonna Betta is open on Rosh Hashanah?
Yup, well of course it depends how you define crap
I still eat cream cheese and jelly when I can find cream cheese without crap in it, which is rarely.
I always tip in cash.
For take out I do about 10%.
Thank you. We have only a day or two when they'll be open so I think I'll make sure we get in!
How far ahead for Armando at lunch?
Oops, I just saw the downstream post.
We will be in Rome for a few days early in October, which includes the Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanah. We are wondering both whether restaurants in the ghetto will be open and also what traditional foods of this holiday will be available and where.
Thank you.
Thank you. It had been my impression that the eating of raw seafood was indeed longstanding in Bari.
Probably will. I am most attracted to the kind of small places which may be least safe;(
I did find that article which referred mainly to Sicily.
I guess I don't feel much clearer but do gave a local contact in Puglia who was born there and is also interested in food, so I will talk with her about safe places .
Thank you
Many food writers recommend eating raw fish in the seaside restaurants in Puglia, but I also remember reading ( here?) that this is not traditionally eaten in Puglia and may not indeed be a good idea.
Therefore I would appreciate input on this subject as we will be visiting in September.
There are shuttles .
If no car though PTown is the best choice.
Sunday is particularly bad going that direction.
We had an excellent dinner last week. Very nice menu, the food was excellent. The prices looked high until we saw the size of the portions which were quite large.
Sunday night it was packed . We were hustled along when we're were done as lots of people waiting.
Or may not be
She did one party a few years ago.
Thank you. That is very helpful. I think we'll give it a miss.
Nobody?
A friend raves about this slow food place but am wondering what you Chowhounds think
I have made babka many times with Smitten kitchens recipe. It takes time but is not difficult.
Frankly I think it will be a little weird.
