Thanks to you tech informed for helping out this relic of the stone age. Greatly appreciated.

What are "my settings?" And how do I access it?

I can't say that I'm as fervent as you. However, three of my favorite food memories involve watermelon. My family had picnics in the woods every fourth of July. A watermelon was always included. During WW 11, sugar rationing was in effect. The family could scrounge up enough for reasonably frequent desserts. But not so the mass feeding at Camp Fire camp. One night the counselors surprised us with ice cold water melon. The third encounter was at Six Flags over Texas. As young parents , we treated our kids with a visit to the amusement Park. In August. Blistering heat and the ride lines were long. We were parched. Then we ran across the watermelon patch where they were serving that ice cold taste of heaven.

When I was a kid, the jus left in the broiler pan was used to sop bread in. We called it dunk em.

GW Fins has the best seafood in New Orleans in my opinion. Service and ambience are good. It can be loud. I wouldn't miss it.

GW Fins would fit the one higher price dinner. Their food is out of this world.

Seems to me that chicken fried steak would be what you're looking for. I'm not very familiar with restaurants around The Colony, but you might ask around. There is probably a Black Eyed Pea nearby. It is a chain, but a regional one.

I think that's too much baking powder. I wouldn't use more than a level half teaspoon.

I had the strawberry salad, bayoubaise, and bread pudding. It was on the prixe fixe menu . Very good. In the past I've had the puppy drum, the crawfish crepe and the seafood gumbo. This trip Muriel's food was far better than Commander's. Of course service and ambience at Commander's can't be beat. That said, the ambience at Muriel's is first rate. In my opinion the food at GW Fin is in a class by itself.

We just returned from New Orleans. Our favorite food by far was GW Fin. Also Muriel's was very good. We're pretty much in the same demographic as you describe tour parents.

You can freeze them if you plan to use them in a cobbler or apple crisp Treat them with Fruit Fresh to prevent them from turning brown.

One thing I will say about Fitzmorris is that his recipes work. That's important to me.

I'm also mobility impaired. We're going in May and are staying at Place d'Armes. Muriels is next door. Tableu is across the square. Café d'Monde is a block away. Jackson Square is a great place to hang out. Cabs to Commander's and GW Fins. Also a cab to Coquette as we've never been but looks interesting. Have a great time.

Delivery pizza ordered online. Preordered with a stated delivery time. The ultimate in laziness.

Why not ask on Tripadvisor? I think that's a good idea. I read both. This is a food board. Theirs covers more of the mosey around the quarter and grab a snack type thing

I don't think you have a bad hock. There is very little actual meat on a ham hock. What there is is under the thick layer of skin. What the ham hock is there for is to provide flavoring to the dish. Yes, you can add the meat picked from the bone.

I'll throw in GW Fins. Perhaps the best seafood in town. Or the above suggestion of August for lunch and something more casual for dinner is a good one.

I think I would marinate them and charcoal grill. Marinade would at least help with the tasteless issue, and possibly a little with the toughness.

We also enjoy Chamberlain's seafood place, and it is open at lunch. We're seniors, so that works for us.

Commander's is worth it for the experience as well as the food. Last time we went for an early dinner, I had two appetizers and a dessert. Ti Martin came by our table and was most friendly. Didn't scowl or anything'

I thoroughly agree with your assessment. It must have come up here, because something prompted us to drive to McKinney to try it. I would highly recommend the fatty brisket. Pork ribs are also good.

Commander's Palace. It's in the Garden District in a big old mansion. Very festive.

Are you referring to Latter Day Saints? I think they would prefer to be identified as Mormons or LDS.. LSD is not within their protocol.

I'm 77 and I say go with the chicken pot pie. We love it and would eat it year round. I would serve the salad with the main dish. Then dessert.

Okay. I know you said not a guess. However, the only two places in Plano we buy groceries are at the Krogers at Custer and Parker and the Albertsons at Custer and 15th. We keep Crystal on hand at all times so it has to be available at one or both.
