Thanks...guess we will wait a week or two. Hope the hail today didn't pummel the peaches.

The peaches at the farmer's market looked great this morning but I was hoping to find a large basket right from the orchard. Thinking of driving out towards Fredericksburg since I have heard about peach stands out that way. We are new to the Austin area...any suggestions?

thanks very much...i can swing by there before dropping my guest off at the airport. she wanted to take some local pecans back to california.

Looking for a source for locally grown pecans in or near Austin. Tried for farmer's market yesterday and no luck. Also went to the pecan/gift store south of Austin on 290 but would like to go directly to the grower. Any ideas within an hour of Austin would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thank you for your responses. We are off to the farmers market this morning and will look for the honey and agave. found a lavender flavored coffee at bouldin coffee house yesterday.

Does anyonee know where I might find lavender honey in or near Austin?

I took a ride over to the eastside and found boggy creek farm. looks like a great destination for saturday morning after the farmer's market.

yes i went to the new sprouts on bee cave road and found that i was a few weeks early. now that i think of it, that store may be opening in a few days and would be a good food destination. i ended up at the one down south on brodie lane and was expecting more of a trader joe's but found some great deals. thanks very much.

thank you for these two suggestions. i have wanted to try east side cafe and will google the location of boggy creek. i appreciate your input.

I am expecting a visit from a friend who loves Austin and especially loves the restaurant/organic/local food movement here. She is, however, on a limited budget and we have already decided that we will try to limit our dining to reasonably-priced destinations. Last year I took her to the downtown Farmer's Market and to Kerby Lane for some locally raised chow. This year I thought we might try some of the new trailer food as I understand that some of it is organic. If I were to choose places I would go with local dives that offer food that one may not find elsewhere but I feel obliged to take our guest's preferences into account. For example, I took another out of towner to the Texas Chili Parlor and later to Hut's but these places probably don't offer grass fed beef. Also, she would like to try and visit one of the local farms...I found the name of one of the goat farms on this board and may try to go there. Thanks for any help you may offer!

We discovered Max's for Sunday brunch starting at 11am and have found parking to be available within a block or two. Granted we arrive just at opening and don't mind walking a bit. We've been three times so far and find the decor to be peripheral to the great food and very friendly and informative staff. (We had tried Annie's for brunch and found the staff to be in a stupor. I left there wondering, "Who died?") We especially enjoyed sitting at the bar and watching the kitchen in high gear while a staff member made sure everything was garnished just right and each order was complete. Having worked in the business for some years, I'm guessing that few plates are sent back to the kitchen.
I don't have the menu in front of me but so far everything we've ordered has exceeded expectations. Will post more after I look at the menu and can list the names of the dishes we've tried.

Thank you very much for your reply. We checked the website for El Meson and it said that it would be open but I should have given them a call as you suggested because found them closed this morning. I am looking forward to trying it and Curra's another day. We ended up going west of the airport and ate at El Borrego de Oro at 71 and Congress with just a ten minute drive back to drop our friend off for her flight. Thank you again for your help...

Looking for a Sunday morning breakfast between Manor and the Airport. I am picking up an old friend in Manor and dropping her off at the airport. We hope to find breakfast somewhere but imagine wandering around looking for a place and running out of time. We don't have time to drive back to Austin to Kerby Lane or Torchy's, so I'm sort of stuck. Thanks!
