I liked all the home-made ice creams at Tottie's Asian Fusion, but, it has been many years. Jackfruit was one of the flavors.

I tried a pint of chocolate, and thought it tasted pretty good. I prefer something more dense / less airy.

The makers of this product seem to want to appeal to the broadest audience. One of the ingredients is "milk protein concentrate", which kind of troubles me. Again, they seem to want to hit all the bases: low carb, low fat, low calorie, high protein, organic, gluten-free, etc. The product seems contrary to my (our?) goal of increasing insulin sensitivity.

I doubt that I will buy it again.

A quick look at the data on myfitnesspal.com shows Whole Wheat Ritz to be practically identical to "plain bread crumbs" in terms of total carbs and fiber.

My TJ's now has organic Stokes Purple Sweet Potatoes. My 3 lb bag had twelve, nice, small size. I roasted in a little coconut oil @ 400F for 50 minutes, and ate it plain. Not bad, but, a little bland. Very purple on the inside.

I can't describe them any better than the TJ's article:

"They're sweet, through and through, with just a hint of chestnut flavor. They're a bit fluffy (again, like a russet) and a little less moist than traditional sweet potatoes and yams, but if you're a sweet potato fan, these will definitely satisfy that craving."

I find most sweet potatoes quite sweet, and these are no exception.

Perhaps these are the same? Three pounds for $3.99 at Trader Joe's.

"Murasaki Sweet Potatoes are dark purple on the outside, and cream colored on the inside."

I enjoyed them, and, they are still available at my TJ's.

The new Frasher's is not far from Scottsdale. I haven't tried it - don't know if I will, since I seem to be ruined for BBQ. http://www.frasherssmokehouse.com/

Thanks for the tip. Fage is indeed, rich. I don't know how they get the high protein content, given the simple ingredients.

I've been using the (cheap) Bodum Brazil 8-Cup French Press Coffee Maker, 34-Ounce, Black. This typically sells for about $20. I bought it at my neighborhood Fry's (Kroger). The replacement beaker sells for about $20, so, I bought the whole kit and caboodle when I needed to replace it. I broke the beaker as I was pounding it with the heel of my hand, trying to loosen the wet grounds.

When I needed to get a new one, I looked on IKEA's website to see what they had. Nothing. But, when I went to the store, they had them for $9. It looked just like the Bodum Brazil, but, I haven't compared them, yet.

I think there is a lot of variety in yogurt, and it is worth exploring different brands. I've been eating Stonyfield plain full fat, lately, and it is not available (full fat) at many mainstream grocers. I can get it at Safeway and the local "natural" grocer (Sprouts). I also like the European Style stuff at Trader Joe's. I generally avoid Greek, but TJ's is really cheap, and a quick ready-to-eat source of fat and protein.

Recently, I accidentally bought some 2% (non-Greek), and I thought it was awful. I can't remember the brand, but, it was something of which I usually get the full fat version.

I try to eat a lot of eggs, just because they are so quick to prepare. Also, I am inclined to follow the Jaminets' recommendation of eating 3 egg yolks per day.

Yesterday, I ate an 8 oz. burger and Brussels sprouts for breakfast - another quickie. Recently, I made "Garbage Stir-Fry with Curried Cabbage".

I seem to function better on a big breakfast, and I often eat leftovers or something I've frozen.

I tend to eat meaty, fatty breakfasts and don't think too much about what is traditional.

Not surprising to me. However, I am inclined to believe that most people trying to lose weight will likely do themselves more harm than good, because they lack the resources needed to do what is right for themselves as individuals.

You linked to an excellent article. Norm Robillard strikes me as very giving and caring. I bought Fast Tract Digestion Heartburn, and it is an excellent reference.

For anyone suspecting SIBO, I would recommend exhaustive research on the subject. Every treatment has its ups and downs. Interventions can be difficult, expensive, and the rate of relapse is high. For more information, look up Mark Pimentel, Allison Siebecker, and associates.

I'll link to some recent podcast interviews of Pimentel and Siebecker:

Another recipe that worked for me (kinda):

20 g coffee (TJ's Half Caff)
18 fl oz water
5 g cocoa powder (Penzey's Natural High Fat)
3 tbsp coconut oil

My biggest criticism would be that it tasted too much like coconut oil. I use TJ's, which isn't the greatest tasting, IMO, but, I usually just use it as a cooking oil. I intentionally made the coffee a little weak, since I was adding cocoa. Maybe improving ingredients, and making full strength coffee would do the trick.

This thread was started in the Special Diets forum. I wanted to make a version that was free of dairy and sweetener - and, satisfy my chocolate habit.

Quick update on Theranos... They seem to be the topic of negative scrutiny from the FDA and the Wall Street Journal. (Sigh)

The following article is a quick read for those who might be interested: Theranos Isn’t the Only One Chasing Needle-Free Blood Tests

http://www.wired.com/2015/10/theranos...

mcf - I was aware of most of your comment. The point I was trying to make about Theranos - it was *very* cheap and convenient - roughly one-third the cost of other labs.

Here are some links to labs using more traditional methods:

You mean to tell me that there are people who consume alcoholic beverages for the *taste*!? ;^)

I have plans to get a bunch of testing done at a Theranos location, in the near future, including Insulin. I'll follow up with a report on the experience.

I think Theranos is offering many tests with just a finger stick. The Insulin test is $7.86, to give you an idea of the affordability. I'm ordering 12 tests. some being panels, and the most expensive is 25-OH Vitamin D at $20.35.

Unfortunately, this is pretty much only available in Arizona, at this time.

http://www.theranos.com/

See your local listings for details. Use Google for more info. I couldn't find a stable link.

Of particular interest might be a free blood glucose test. Those who want to see if their meter agrees, or those without a meter and suspect some level of insulin resistance might want to check it out.

I just noticed a bump in this thread, so, I'll chime in, here.

I have experienced an acute, uncomfortable, physical reaction to chicken, turkey, and some farmed fish, for the past 30 years, or so. I've done a lot of experimenting with organic, hormone-free, antibiotic-free, etc., to no avail.

About a year ago, I tried a pastured chicken from a local ranch, and it was incredibly good, and I had no ill effects. It was great to have chicken back into my diet.

I had never tried Trader Joes', so, I gave their organic chickens a shot. Knock on wood - so far, so good. I've had many of their whole birds, both brined and not, and things are working out well. Not as good as the pastured birds, which are probably grown more slowly, and feed more on their natural diet, but, TJ's are 40-50% lower in price.

Maybe something inside of me has healed, and I could get away with eating Chicken McNutz, but, I'll stick with the higher quality goods.
