ZAZU

Tom Hall | Dec 15, 2005 08:01 PM

My wife and I had dinner at ZAZU last Sat evening. It's in a smallish, isolated shack west of Santa Rosa and easy to miss at night. Most of the diners seemed to be local. We started with great bread and a couple salads: a dry jack "ceasar" salad (quotes were on the menu) which my wife liked and I had a wonderful and refreshing baby spinach salad dressed in oil and fresh lemon juice with Bulgarian feta and pomegranite seeds. Excellent ingredients, well composed and fabulous. My second was some squash ravioli which were too sweet. My wife had a half Dungeness crab- what (very) little she shared was as good as any crab I have ever tasted. I ended with a cup of (somewhat) spicy tomato soup and a small grilled cheese sandwich with, I believe, Bellwether carmody cheese which was good, homestyle food. We then shared a chocolate torte thing with coffee gellato, which was the best coffee ice cream thing I have ever tasted. Service was friendly and very good. Food moderately pricey, wine list more so. I was very satisfied and would return.
