Zaytinya - what happened to the flavor?

Not my first time at Zaytinya - but maybe my last? Everything I had was put through the deflavorizing machine, and I can't think of a Greek/Turkish/Persian/Lebanese restaurant in the area that doesn't do a better job of preparing this food.

Sliced zucchini and cheese had no flavor, and wasn't saved by the parsimonious use of yogurt sauce, clearly made for those who do not like yogurt. A salad of golden beets: texture of the beets tasted fresh, but the flavor is no better than canned beets. Lamb shank that everyone raves about is a pale version of that served at Rose Restaurant in Falls Church. Even a dish I liked in the past, the carrot and apricot fritters, were quite foamy (and underdone) on the inside, though the exterior was cooked to the limit . Foam = air = flavorless. This was quite a letdown from what I thought was a MUST order in the past.

Has anyone else had a similar experience recently at Zaytinya? From now on I'll stick to my tried and true Arlington haunts.
