Despite a rather lengthy recent thread on this subject I am going to exercise my Chowhound right and add my two cents. I give Zankou its due. Some of my closest foodie friends seemed to have had their well seasoned crispy skin roasted chicken teeth cut on either the Valley or Hollywood locations at one time or another. One has even been inspired to begin work on a similar concept. So, when one of those friends asked me to join him at the newly opened WLA location early this evening I immediately said yes. I'd never tried it after all.
I think the last time I drove into a restaurant parking lot at 6:30pm with three parking attendants all in white, I was either at The Ivy or Morton's. This location is so busy that they are apparently expanding into the space next door.
My friend hadn't been in awhile but agreed that this was the taste he remembered and it hadn't aged well. The hummus was very good but the garlic sauce/paste is a mystery to me. The chicken was dry and we were just handed the pita bread in its original packaging. Costco is still the best and at $4.99 as opposed to todays $8.79. I even prefer El Pollo Loco. We had a good time, though, with even enough left over for lunch tomorrow.
