A new 'Shawarma kid' has come to town.....of Richmond Hill!
When you have a business brave enough to advertise its product as the 'best' in town, it begs for people to give them a try and prove them wrong?! However, in their case, they might have a point?! The offerings were very good indeed!
Having just tried a Lebanese Shawarma from the newly opened 'Jordan's Shawarma' in Thornhill last week, I would never have guessed I'll be giving another new Shawarma outfit a try in so short a period of time.
"Mr. Zagros" offers 'Turkish' Halal Shawarma.
A number of things stood out. First, the HUGE flat-bread ( lavash ) for the wrap was 'freshly baked in-house' at a special dedicated station!....a rare approach. Secondly, the shaved meats from the spit was mixed together with your choice of condiments and sauces in a large bowl by the server, before placing onto the doughy wrapper and rolled up. During our visit, there were three spit in operation. All meats on the spit were nicely charred and caramelized! A wonderful sight!
We took both our chicken and beef take-out home and ate the wraps in both the 'uncrisp' and crisp form. The former, has the nice chewy consistency of eating a 'Peking Duck' wrap, whilst the crisp-up version is more to the norm.
The nicely seasoned fillers ( created by a choice Yogurt, sesame, spicy-Sweet and spicy-hot sauces plus pickled radishes, chilies...etc ), the mega-size, total package was delicious, extremely filling and enjoyable!
Whether they are indeed the BEST in town, I cannot tell since I have not been to everyone. However, from what I have eaten so far downtown, along the Lawrence stretch or in the Thornhill area, these Mr Zagros offering IMHO, rated way up there!
