Long story short, I "earned" a copy of a new Zagat's Boston by doing a survey for them. I advised Zagat's that I'd moved to Tampa, asked for the Orlando book instead of the one for Boston, and several e-mails later I received the book for Miami. Having had dealings with Zagat's a few years ago, and getting multiple inconsistent answers to the simple question of will there be a new Los Angeles guide to Ethnic Markets, etc., coming out, I wasn't exactly surprised at the goof up.
However, am now considering picking up a Zagat's for this area and am wondering if it is considered worthwhile by local hounds. In LA the board consensus was that the Zagat's wasn't especially useful except as a reference for phone numbers and addresses. Predictable pique at Olive Garden rating highly, for example. On other boards, however, Zagat's is considered a pretty good source book for good chow.
Should I invest a couple of bucks? Opinions?
And, by the way, is the Entertainment Club book for restaurants worthwhile here? Great in some cities, awful in others.
