zabb queens review (2 visits)

My family have made a habit of stopping in queens for dinner on the way back from long island beaches. My three kids love thai food but my oldest (13) is the only one that has been to sri. We tried to go to sri a couple of weeks ago only to learn they were on vacation once we arrived. Last night we got to sri around 9:35, lot of people waiting for tables and we were turned away. In both cases we headed to zabb and had great meals:

Overall, my impression of zabb is that the cooking is a little finer than sri. The sauces are a little more delicate and a finer presentation. With five people, we are able to try a lot of dishes:
- drunken noodles - a little sweet, great sauce, maybe better than sri
- larb - decided to try larb for the first time, well prepared but not a hit for the table
- crispy duck salad - great, very fresh salad, perfect crispy duck
- bbq beef salad - another hit
- panang curry - very good, as others have noted, sri is probably stronger on the curries
- crispy pork, chinese brocoli - first time with this dish, not spicy, delicious contrast of crunchy pork with the brocoli
- shrimp pad thai - my youngest daughter can't handle too much spice (is she really mine?) , so we need to get at least one "safe" dish. Delicious, better than sri

My sense is that zabb might be a little less expensive than sri, it was certainly less crowded and its a nicer space.
