YYC Garlic

Scary Bill | May 20, 2013 04:28 PM

Since moving to Calgary about 3 1/2 years ago the quality and price of garlic has been a pet peeve of mine.

Chinese garlic, incredibly cheap and everywhere is lousy, more often than not sprouted and dry.

The Hutterites have incredible garlic seasonally for a couple of months, but want a ransom for a bulb. Too often I succumb and dig deep.

Superstore a few months ago started selling organic US garlic, and it wasn't too bad, though often approaching its past due (by my reconing) date. I've also noticed organic garlic, looking none too special, at the local designer markets, often priced at a whopping $9.99 per pound!!!!

So, today, went to Superstore and they had Gilroy garlic, beautiful hard, weighty, misshapen, and juicy like fruit for $1.99 per pound! Go there, buy lots, let Superstore know they've done a good thing so they will keep on bringing it in, don't let me slide back into garlic purgatory, please!!!!!
