"Yut mun hup!" at Hing Lung

Melanie Wong | Aug 5, 200404:00 AM

Tuesday afternoon after 4:30pm when I was shopping along Stockton St. in Chinatown, I could hear a barker out in front of Hing Lung shouting "yut mun! yut mun! yut mun hup!". I stopped to see what he was selling for $1 a box.

On top of a wooden crate placed on the sidewalk, small size paper take-out cartons filled to the brim with various hot and ready-to-eat cooked foods from the steam tables were lined up in a couple rows. The assortment included 4 fried chicken drumsticks per box, steamed spareribs with black bean sauce, stuffed braised tofu, stewed beef innards, salt and pepper fried spareribs, and more. A box or two would be more than enough for dinner for one.
