Yuri Japanese Cafe

Hi all,

Has anyone tried this place? I work in the neighborhood and decided to give it a go! Here is my experience:

My first impression of the place was their decor, which was very cute and inviting. Reminded me of Pink Berry and places like that--modernish colorful interiors that are fairly minimal but still inviting. The next thing is the huge chalkboard menu, but with very few selections. I'm an indecisive person so it worked, esp for my first time but I can see this becoming a draw-back for the future of this business.

A few choices for entrees and a few sides and their teas are one of their specialties. Thats it! I got the Combo Entree which allows you to select two entrees at smaller portions and a side. I chose the Melrose Roll and the Yuri Tuna Roll and for my side i chose the Yuri Salad which was lettuce, corn, water chestnuts, and black beans with a homemade bbq dressing--simple yes but sooo fresh and delicious seriously it was great (only choices were the yuri salad, another salad, and brown or white rice). The Melrose roll was okay--cooked whitefish, salmon, asparagus and tuna. The yuri roll which was just red tuna was sooooo good! My boyfriend got the chicken teriyaki bowl which was tasty.

Their teas are delicious but pricey. They steep it in front of you and use very fragrant and fresh tea herbs. I had the cookie which really tasted like an almond cookie! My boyfriend tired it with soda water and was surprisingly refreshing and delicious. Even though it is pricey I will def .treat myself one day when I have a sweet craving but not wanting to indulge in chocolates!

Overall, I really enjoyed it here. The menu does need some additions (maybe some interesting soup for the Fall/Winter, some desserts like little cakes or green tea sometimes, another type of roll with eel yum, or a tofu option) but the friendly staff and the fair price for fresh food is doable. The teas are great too and its a good stop at the end of Melrose after shopping or getting a mani pedi next door. Times are tough in this economy today so if you're goin out think of the little people and give this place a try!! It is def. worth the stop.
