Tried three small plates plus one big bowl of noodles at this new spot for Yunnanese cuisine. Many of the dishes are named after specific towns in the Yunnan Province.
The small plates were a delicious array of flavors and textures. Tofu and Spring Onion Salad was a block of tofu with lots of chopped spring onions and a sweet soy sauce poured on top. Not spectacular like the tofu and preserved egg at Nanjing Bistro in Fairfax, but a very nice dish all the same. Baked Potato Rice is served in a small casserole as a fried riced dish with pototo and chinese sausage. And the Xishuangbanna Salad is a fresh fruit mix featuring grapefruit dusted lightly with spices. Don't expect anything here listed as spicy to be like Hunan or Sichuan dishes. Ain't gonna happen.
We probably made a mistake in ordering the one cold noodle bowl with pulled chicken (Liang Mixian Salad). The noodles were like bad spaghetti. Throw enough nice toppings together in a bowl, and it's going to be pretty good, so it was not a terrible thing to eat. But I am hoping they have better noodles elsewhere on the menu.
