A semi-clueless article* I read in the Bergen Record during a visit to the area last week alerted me to the existence of an excellent Korean restaurant/palace of take-out in Palisades Park: Poongnyun Korea, 306 Broad Avenue, Palisades Park, NY, 201-944-8716.
The centerpiece of the downstairs takeout section is a long refrigerator case. One side contains piles of plastic takeout containers full of assorted delectables, and the other side has large vats -- there's no better term -- full of delicious, chili-laden goodness of various sorts. There's also a fry station and a display of packaged sushi as you come in. Almost nothing is labelled in English, but you are encouraged to taste any of the unpackaged foods before you make a purchase.
The owners are very nice, and what they lack in English language skills they make up in charm and generosity.
One thing to note: the Palisades Park Police check the Broad Avenue parking meters often! But there is free off-street parking available.
*Clueless on the part of the non-Korean writer, Leslie Koren, that is. Does she really write about food for a living?
