My lunch spot last weekend in Lodi was the new-ish Yukari's Bento Box. Mostly set up for take-out, it does have a handful of tables in a side seating area for eating-in. I was interested in this place because I'd read that the owners are the children of the family that operated the venerable Suruki market and Sozai Corner restaurant in San Mateo for many years.
The teriyaki beef short ribs bento, $11.95, was really good. The teriyaki seasoning was beautifully balanced, that is, not too sweet and not too salty, and expertly grilled for aromatic char. The meat was tender to the bite but not too mushy or overtenderized. Mac salad used shell pasta, shaved cucumbers, surimi and lots of black pepper. The satisfying miso soup included tofu cubes and plenty of wakame. A full bento box comes with rice, mac salad, green salad, and miso soup. And that box is stuffed to overflowing, enough for two meals. My one nit-pick is that the rice was long grain rather than short grain.
This is a friendly family-run eatery. Anyone else tried it?
