'Yu-Garden, HighTech Road, Richmond Hill' - A disaster of a meal! Something to do with the full moon? I wonder?!
Following 'Royaljelly's' footstep, I finally had a chance to try out this newly opened Shanghainese place tonight. However, first off, I'd like to make it clear that, apart from a coincidence in name use, I have no affiliation with this eatery whatsoever! Otherwise, with reputation at stake, I would have made sure that the food they serve would be up to my standard! Ha!
Any ways, to cut a sad story short, none of the food we ordered tonight was in the same class and caliber as my current favorite go-to Shanghainese place 'Sika Deer' at Finch & Midland.
Everything we ordered tonight ranges from mediocre to down right unacceptable. The Xiao Long Bao, (broth filled dumpling), actually tasted like 'weed' - Yup! Marijuana. Every tapas size dishes, from the Fried Prawns and Braised Bamboo Shoot to the Nan-King Soya Duck, were all overly sweet and syrupy. The supposedly, crispy bottom, pot-sticker meat buns were soggy and void of broth. Even the canned condensed milk used for the, again soggy, fried Chinese doughnut ( Man Tao ) tasted inferior. Only the stirred fry Kung Pao Chicken received a passing grade. Though, IMO, the Sichuan peppercorn used was slightly over powering.
We were perplexed as to why this place is so packed?!
Lastly, towards the end of our meal, our server actually tried to sell us a VIP card for $20 which would give us full $20 rebate on our next meal and then 10% discount entitlement for future meals.
Expecting us for a return visit after serving us with such disappointing food? Are you kidding me?!
If they continue to serve food of this bad quality, most probably they'll be close pretty soon?!
