At a recent Shanghai-style dinner we were served the soup in claypot shown below. One of the ingredients was something I'd not come across before and was wondering if anyone can tell me more about it.
Unfortunately, they don't seem to float that well so are a little hard to see in this picture. These were described as bamboo stems or bamboo shoots and are the greyish-green stalks that almost look like canned asparagus spears with notches. They're in the pot at approximately 3:00, 5:00 and just right of center.
