New Yorker Gals Hitting N.O. - Need Sage Advice

LBG | Jan 13, 200304:09 PM     10

Hi - Two of my gal pals and I are trying to plan a four day weekend in New Orleans for end of February, before the Mardi Gras madness. Looking for some advice on the lounge/bar front. We're all in our early thirties and aren't into the rowdy frat boy scene - so I'm sure that most of Bourbon Street is out. In addition, we're trying to locate a moderately priced hotel ($75 - $120 per night for a 3 person room) in the French Quarter, near the Quarter or in the Garden District. I've heard that the Bayonne Hotel/Travelodge is pretty good. But, the person I was talking to hadn't been there in a few years. Any advice to offer on either front? P.S. And what Chowhound request would be complete, without a request for "must-do" restaurant recommendations...
