What's the best (New York style) pizza in Philly?

Hello fellow chowhounds,

Any thoughts/suggestions for the best (New York style) pizza in or around Philadelphia? I *love* pizza (yes, I know, low standards...), and am continuously searching for the best NY-style around. In the past year I've fallen into the rut of going to Peace-A-Pizza (Rosemont, Wayne, Ardmore) about once a week when I need a pizza fix. It's good, but a little "formulaic" and yuppified. Maroney's in Ardmore does a reasonable job of a family-style pizza with fresh ingredients.

Yesterday we were in Staten Island for the day, and just ducked into a joint in a stip mall (Gino's on Richmond Ave.) for a quick slice. Who would have known, but it was the ABSOLUTELY BEST pizza I've ever had in my life! It reminded me of what NY style pizza is all about - crust that is firm, a touch crispy (but not wafer thin and cracker-crispy like Bertucci's parodies), cooked for a relatively shorter time in a very hot oven, top-quality fresh ingredients, real ricotta and mozarella cheese... delicious! In comparison, most pizza's have thicker, softer, almost droopy crust, canned sauces and toppings - just doesn't do it.

Now we've vowed to search for really good pizza in Philly, city or surrounding suburbs.

Any and all thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Nick L
