Help!!!!

I'm coming on Halloween weekend and I need to start planning the restaurants. I'm from the SF Bay area, so I can get really, really good Chinese and Indian here. However, it's impossible to get a decent pizza or bagel.

Generally, when traveling I like to do one $$ restaurant and the rest rather cheap. The last few times I have been to Manhattan w/ my mom and she only likes fancy places:( However, this time I will be with my husband and he likes the kind of the hole in the wall/ethnic restaurants that I do:) Also, since I am mainly coming to eat/shop I'd be willing to travel for something really tasty.

Have been to the following places:

Cafe Boulud (sp?)- first few times LOVED it, but the last time was a bit disappointed in both the food and service
Babbo - unimpressed
Pipa - loved it for lunch and will go back this trip
Aquavit(sp?) - nice

I don't have a hotel reservation yet, but am thinking of staying in Chelsea. I'd like to go back to Pipa and I've been dying to go to Gramercy Tavern. What am I missing? How is Red Cat? What about Caracas Arepa Bar?

Any suggestions for ethnic/cheap and/or expensive would be greatly appreciated. I'd especially like to eat the types of food that I can't get here.

Thank you!
