Meal: My friend had Greek salad and lamb chops (that came with rice, potatoes and veggies); my SO had Caesar salad and fettuccini primavera; I had beef veggie soup and grilled kalamari dinner (which also came with rice, potatoes and veggies). Garlic bread was served as well.
Garlic bread was VERY garlicky. The waiter brought a basket of very garlicky bread when he came to take down drink orders, which he didnt have to since we all had water. I personally dont like ordering drinks because 1) restaurants make most money out of drinks, which cost them the least, 2) since I was a kid, I was told not to have drinks with meals, so I dont, and 3) drinks actually mix flavours with food, which isnt good.
My soup was okay. It was a tomato based veggie soup with little chunks of tender beef brisket. But I dunno, I think that they didnt do it tomatoey enough. Salads were also okay, the standard.
Our meals actually came when we werent even finished with our appetizers. I would have thought the staff could have timed it so we could finish our appetizer so food wouldnt have to go cold as we finished. But all our entrees came all at once. My kalamari looked quite nice, and so did my friend's chops. The pasta looked quite normal to me too. We had a little surprise with my kalamari though. It had to happen to the one I was sharing with my friend--the spine was still inside it. Hehe, and my friend was thinking that it was stuffed with some sort of "thing." And when I told her what it was, she didnt want anymore to do with it.
However, her chops were AMAZING with a capital A. They were flavoured rreaaaaaaally good and grilled to perfection! Terribly yummy. I had one of them, and I made it last. The lamby flavour was nicely brought out by the spices they used to marinate it with.
My kalamari were good too. I love the grilly flavour, the charcoalness of it all. But its kalamari, so not much spices or marinade stayed on. But at least I tasted some, whereas when I went to The Friendly Greek on Finch West, there was no taste at all. This one was okay. The best was when I went to the one on Kennedy, south of 401. I dont think I'll be able to find that kind of flavour anywhere.
We couldnt finish our meals, of course, and we were all filled to the brim, so we took doggy bags. We even took the uneaten garlicky bread too. Well, better to take it else the staff are just going to recycle it and give it to another table. It was good bread anyway.
Service: Our waiter was very friendly. I was a loser though, 'coz I gave tips based on the actual total on the bill, not on the total that was supposed to be on the bill. See, our 2 for 1 deal meant that 1 dinner was excluded on the bill.. and that constituted about $14 +tax of the bill. If I were smart, I would have incorporated that to calculate my tip, but I didnt. Oops. So I underpaid my tips by about $2.50. I'm sorry Mr. Trying-to-Crack-Jokes Waiter.
