Yen Ching: Korean-Chinese in Fremont

tanspace | Aug 26, 200302:47 AM

Yen Ching's Korean-Chinese restaurant located in Mission area of Fremont off of Washington exit of 680. I would not have know about this place if it wasn't for a friend who told me about this place. Outside it looks like a regular Chinese carry-out place. Inside, the setting is pretty nice and clean with a modern feel. When we went, the customers were Chinese, Koreans, and Americans.

We tried the Gan Zha Jiang, La Jiao Ro (Spicy Pepper Pork), Gan Pong Shrimp, and the Combination Stir-Fried Hand Pulled Noodle. The Gan Zha Jiang is pretty good flavorwise, though the pieces of diced veggies were larger than normal. The noodle was standard hand-pulled - good and chewy. The La Jiao Ro had good garlic flavor but the pork was a little tough. I would order the beef version next time. The Gan Pong Shrimp was cooked dry with bits of garlic and onions and dry - the way it should be. However, I don't know if it'll measure up to Han's standard... The Combo Noodle was the weakest dish of the 4. It was very bland tasting and the ingredients were 2nd rate. I would not order this again.

But the quality of the Gan Zha Jiang indicates that other dishes should be worth exploring on another visit, including the Sweet & Sour and Gan Pong Chicken dishes.
