Yemenite-Israeli bread

Sarah Boyette | Apr 3, 2003 09:51 AM

I lived in Israel for about four months in late 2001, and I stayed with a Yemenite-Jewish family while I was there. The mother made this bread, and i have been in search of it since. It's about a foot tall, cylindrical, basically the color of a Sally Lunn bread. You eat it by tearing off pieces with your hads. The top is airy and baking-soda-y (I think), but by the bottom, it's buttery. This bread haunts my dreams. I must have it again before I die. Seeing as I'm 17, this gives anyone with information plenty of time to get back to me. Any place that serves it, from Connecticut to Philadelphia, would be amazing. I'm willing to travel. And, if you know what I'm talking about, a recipe would be great too.
Thanks
Sarah
