New Year's Eve Update... thanks for the help!

Katie Nell | Jan 4, 2006 02:22 PM

Well, I thought I'd give you an update on how the "Asian" appetizers went on New Year's Eve. Right before I was getting ready to go to the grocery store to get everything to make the appetizers, my boyfriend called from his parent's house (where we were headed eventually with the apps) and my future MIL, (I usually don't use abbreviations, but it seems appropriate here!) with the best intentions, had already bought a full meat and cheese platter, a fruit and veggie platter, and had made chex mix and a cheeseball! (She knew I was making the meal and the point was to take some of the stress off of her since she just had her knee replaced!) Anyway, since there were only going to be 6 of us, I started to pare down the menu. I had already made the pork (substituted for beef on your suggestion) and cabbage buns, and then I also made the Honey Marinated Beef Satay with Spicy Butter Sauce, Chicken Wings in Peanut Sauce, and some vegetable spring rolls. The Beef Satay was good as usual... we've had it a couple of times and it's an excellent recipe. The chicken wings and the buns were okay... the buns were a little too much bun and not enough filling. The spring rolls were yucky, but don't tell my mom... she did most of that. It was weird, the sauce that was in the filling was kind of a gravy consistency. So, everything was not exactly what I had anticipated, but that's okay. Thank you all for your advice... I think I'm going to try some of your suggestions when I have a little more control over the menu! I'm still learning to cope with the whole mother in law factor, and we're not even married yet! ;-)
