For New Years Eve we enjoyed a culinary adventure lasting over four hours at the Prospect Street Cafe in Bellingham. I've never been anything less than impressed with the food there, but last night's menu gives you an idea of the creative variety that comes out of the kitchen:
Seared Scallop with crisp fried lotus root, pesto puree, and grapefruit, accompanied by sparkling wine.
Kumamoto oysters, Buddha’s hand beet vodka mignonette, fresh horseradish.
Wine: St Vincent Muscadet Sevre et Maine '10.
Kombo cured gravlax, on Yukon Gold blini, with Crème fraîche, chives and capers.
Norcal caviar and Crème fraîche on Yukon Gold blini.
Wine: Regis Minet Vieilles Vignes Pouilly Fume '09.
Lapsang tea crusted Ahi tuna, sugar snap pea and radish salad, pistachio dashi puree, orange soy glaze, tobiko, wasabi powder.
Wine: Buty Conner Lee Chardonnay '10.
Apple and daikon carpaccio, arugula, toasted hazelnuts, shaved fresh Oregon white truffles, Meyer lemon vinaigrette.
Wine: Philippe Balivet Bugey-Cerdon Methode Ancerstrale NV.
Roasted pork belly, smoked Beluga lentils, quail egg, fennel, bacon beurre blanc.
Wine: Dominique Piron Morgon Côtes du Py, '08
Roasted duck breast on duck confit, pan seared foie gras on corn cakes, Brussels sprouts sautéed in foie drippings, huckleberry jam.
Wine: Domaine Mas de Boislauzon Châteauneuf-du-Pape '09.
Colorado Lamb Chop, goat cheese pakora, sautéed chanterelles, spinach curry, mint chutney, red wine cinnamon jus.
Wine: Podere Ruggeri Corsini Barolo '07.
Sea salt caramel, orange confit, hazelnut tuile, eggnog ice cream.
Too dark for decent non-flash photos, so just use your imagination to see the artistic plating.
It's wonderful to have one special occasion restaurant here in our subdued little city.
