I know I'm way too late. My wife and two boys (15 & 12) are headed up from Portland to your fair city to visit family (husband, wife, 8-year-old). They are proposing we eat at Seasons in the Park, which sounds miserable to me. It sounds like a long, drawn-out, overpriced, bland meal, in which the kids will spend hours minding their manners while we all pretend the food is good.
I don't know Vancouver well at all. My personal tastes run to VJ's, Farmer's Apprentice, sushi, seafood, pretty much anything Asian. My kids like interesting food, and are happy to eat sushi or just about anything else.
At the same time, I do want to honor my sister-in-law's desire to be someplace that will actually acknowledge that it's new year's eve somehow.
And, crucially, a place where we will have some hope of getting a reservation for 7 at this late date (which eliminates Farmer's Apprentice).
We'll be staying downtown - West End.
